Hi all,
Automatic Interpreting (AI) by Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to be
coming fast for spoken languages. What about for signed languages?
Last fall, the Advisory Group on AI and Sign Language Interpreting hosted a
three-webinar information series, "Are Deaf Communities READY for AI?"
Those webinars became the main source for a qualitative discourse analysis
of deaf collective intelligence about DeafSafeAIxAI.
Feel free to share the report <https://safeaitf.org/deafsafeai/>with
friends, colleagues, via social media and use the hashtag #DeafSafeAI.
Plus, you're invited to register for the Zoom webinar about the report,
called Toward a Legal Foundation for Ubiquitous Automated Interpreting by
Artificial Intelligence
Date & Time: Fri, Mar 1, 10 am-12 pm CST, login at 9:45am

Tim Riker (Brown University), Teresa Blankmeyer Burke (Gallaudet
University), Holly Jackson (NAOBI-Atlanta), Jeff Shaul (GoSign) and
AnnMarie Killian (TDI) will share insights on the readiness of society and
technology to provide automated interpreting by artificial intelligence
(AIxAI) based on an analysis of deaf discourse about AIxAI. Presented by
the Advisory Group on AI and Sign Language Interpreting
<https://safeaitf.org/deafsafeai/>, this qualitative study offers criteria
for three critical impact areas that could undergird safety and fairness of
AIxAI for all languages.
If you want to know about perceptions from the spoken language side of
AIxAI, there will be a different webinar called, Perceptions on Automated
Interpreting
Date & Time: Thu, Feb 29, 10 am-11:30 am CST
Register: https://streamyard.com/watch/DueHvQTcJWh8
Hélène Pielmeier, Senior Analyst at CSA Research <https://csa-research.com/>,
will present key findings from a large-scale perception survey on automated
interpreting and answer your questions. This comprehensive report spans
over 9,400 datapoints from end-users, requestors, and providers of
interpreting services and technology.
Both events will be accessible in ASL and English.
*Watch both *to learn about the research insights from these recent studies
and foster an inclusive dialogue on AI in interpreting, and contribute to
the development of comprehensive guidelines for the safe use of AI in
interpreting.

Stephanie Jo Kent <stephani...@gmail.com>: Feb 22 05:58AM -0800 Thanks for your question, Janice. It is my understanding that there will be recordings that will be available for later viewing. If so, I'll post the links here once they are available. In the meantime, you can read the 14-page report <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IqyIqVhckHVcX1gSNNUuuRh-hkPnaua9sHOk1hGy8M4/edit?usp=sharing> :) best, steph On Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 10:48:20 AM UTC-5 Janice Cagan-Teuber wrote: |
Steph, Thank you for the announcements regarding interpreting and AI. Unfortunately, I will be working during the times of the webinars. Do you know if they will be recorded so that those of us who cannot "attend" will be able to view them later? Thanks, Janice Janice L. Cagan-Teuber, M.Ed.
