Hello all!
CJ from Seattle here. I am working with Steve Smith (Deaf-parented interpreter from the Sacramento area) to launch the National ASL Interpreter Income Study. This research aims to collect much-needed data on interpreter rates and income while providing critical context to better understand:
Impacts on the Deaf community
Inequity among interpreters
The interpreter shortage
Information gaps in the field of interpreting
Our approach goes beyond numbers—we want to explore how these data intersect with real-world challenges and opportunities in our field. If you’re interested in learning more, we’ve attached a PDF detailing our research framework and its connection to existing literature.
We need a robust and representative dataset to ensure the study’s results are accurate and impactful. Our goal is for every ASL interpreter in the United States to have the opportunity to participate—and that’s where your help makes a difference!
The survey will officially launch at the end of February. Here’s how you can support this significant effort:
Participate in the survey if you’re eligible
Share the survey widely with your network
Encourage your colleagues to visit InterpreterIncome.com and join our email list to stay informed
Your support in sharing this survey will play a vital role in advancing knowledge and equity in our profession.
Thank you for considering this initiative!
Warm regards,
Steve & CJ
