Subject: Re: Update on Dianne's Status in the Hospital
Today I saw mom at 1:00 and 5:00. she was really alert at five and still waiting on dialisas. We still have no ideas what is the cause the problem so that doctors can treat or solve the root cause of the infection. I think they are giving her antobotics to hopefully kill the virus or bug that is causing her problems. The nurse told us after her breathing gets better she can move back to a regular room. I will do my best to update this everyday about her progress. Sorry this update came so late in the day. If you are interrested in seeing her she is in ICU at Lafayette General Floor # 7. Visiting hours are 9:00 A.M. 1:00P.M. 5:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M.
She really likes seeing friends and family so feel free to come by and visit. Also if there is someone that you think that is not getting this update that would want to get it please foward this email to them.
Thanks,
Don

Just visited with mom and she looked good! Concerns were lungs and lung doctor said lungs are good enough. So she can probly do colonastomy. Gastric doctor will make that call in the morning. Next step doctors are saying problem may be something in the gastric area. Cross your fingers and hope the doctors find the root of the problem in the morning.

As of 12:00 noon the doctors still have no ideas of the cause of everything going on with her. What we do know is she is retainning fluid and her kindney function is not back to normal but doc says it may be starting to work. But not back to normal. At noon they put her in the intinsive care unit were they will adminster dialisis to try and get rid of fluid. She is having problems breathing so the dialisis should help with the breathing. Also her white blood cells was to high and her platelets to low which posibly indicated infection in the blood. So the doctors ordered a test for the blood to figure out if her blood is were the problem. After dialisis if her breathing is not back to normal she will be put on a breathing machine to assist her in breathing. As soon as e we her more I will update her status.

No dialysis today! that is determined by blood work every morning and I guess it was good this morning so kidneys are working. She is still on the oxygen through the nose piece. She looked good at noon Me and Nanny Carlyn made here drink a cup of sorbort., about 1/3 cup of broth, and about 1/3 a carton of breeze boost. She is still week but appears to be getting a little better. Nurse did say that it will be a slow healing process.

Finally good news!!! She has what is called C.Difficile. This was tested for early on but not detected and nurse could not say why just that sometimes it does not show up. So now that they now what is the exact bug "which is how the nurse explained it so that we could understand" it is treatable with antobotics by mouth. Sometime between 2:00 and 5:00 she had been taken off 100% oxegen and she was back to just having the oxegen nose piece. The nurse said that with that she is getting about 60% breathing on her own. She was up and drank about half a carton of a suppliment drink and about half a jellow cup. She was joking with use and seem to be in a good mood. Nurse said possible one or two more days in ICU then in a regular room. No diallicuse today. Not sure about kidney function. Blood work will be taken again in the morning and that really determins her medical progress.

Clostridium difficile [klo-STRID-ee-um dif-uh-SEEL] is a bacterium that causes diarrhea and more serious intestinal conditions such as colitis.
What are C. difficile diseases?
They are diseases that result from C. difficile infections such as Colitis, more serious instestinal conditions, sepsis, and rarely death.
What are the symptoms of C. difficile disease?
Symptoms include:
How is C. difficile disease treated?
C. difficile is generally treated for 10 days with antibiotics prescribed by your healthcare provider. The drugs are effective and appear to have few side-effects.
How do people get C. difficile disease?
People in good health usually don’t get C. difficile disease. People who have other illnesses or conditions requiring prolonged use of antibiotics and the elderly are at greater risk of acquiring this disease. The bacteria are found in the feces. Great news! Doctors are shipping her out of icu! SUNDAY! so this may take a while. If you are planning on visiting her at 1:00 call mike to see if she is in a room. She is still weak. So doc Manul said she will need rehab and to start eating! Oh do not forget her birth day is today! Mike is going to bring her phone to her at 1:09 so she will start taking calls. I will update this as soon as I know what room and when she is moved.

Looking good still no appetite. They gave her something to stimulate her appetite. She said she got out of bed and walked. Of course she had some help. But that is the most she did in two weeks. Doc told Mike it will be atleast seven more days before she is strong enough to go home.
