After some hard thinking and a weeks worth of talking it over I have decided to do the TransRockies Run3 solo run. It is a 3 day stage race that is 58 miles that follows the first three stages of the regular TransRockies run. The first stage is a hilly 20 miler that goes from Buena Vista to Railroad Bridge, the second stage is 13 miles but it is very steep, its highest point is 12,536ft. The second stage sounds harder than the first because with a climb of 3,404ft it is going to be killer because it is like doubling the mileage because of the effort you will be putting forth up the hill, but the downhill will be a very fun recovery because not only are you not going uphill again but you are also getting a rest. Personally the third stage will be the toughest for me because it is 24 miles but it also has some climbs in it. I figure that if I can run/walk that stage I will do fine, that's the great things about trail running is you don't always have to run the entire way you can stop and take some breathers. My mom (Wendy Halliday) and my friend Bryon Powell will help train me for the race, I also have support from my friend Jonathan Toker and Adam Chase, both very accomplished runners themselves. I can't wait to start training when the snow clears because my absolute favorite long run course is all covered up in snow. I have been training this winter but not as far as I would like, the snowy trails and unforgiving roads and no match for my longing for the trails! I still remember talking to Jennifer Phar-Davis the Appalachian trail womens record holder, and how she said to follow your dream and desires and run as far as you want no matter what anyone says, and that is exactly what I am going to do. If it takes me all day to finish a stage I don't care because all I want is to finish and achieve a goal that I will have worked on for a very long time.
This might sound silly but instead of the tents they provide, my family and I will be sleeping in our old 1967 Jet Camper Trailer. It is the best little camper you have ever seen, it has room for all of us so it will be great, but it also had a bathroom and kitchen so I can prepare my breakfast and dinners. My dad (Rick Halliday) will be my official driver and support crew at aid stations with the help of my Goldendoodle (Myle Halliday) throughout the race, it will be very fun to show them how fun running can be! I am thinking of wearing my Salomon Xr Crossmax, and my Salomon S-lab 3 both will be suitable for the race and I am hoping that I will have room for some others too, but I can't over pack! The thing I like about this race is that all of my older endurance runner friends will be here to race as well so it will be very fun to meet them all again! Also it is real nice to hear their encouraging words of wisdom as they congratulated me on my decision, I find that it helps me find the drive to train harder and do this race!
