Hey Mike! Just wanted to ask whether the endotherm model in R is ready to be linked to the DEB processes in the same way as the ectotherm model. I wasn't sure if it's at the point where I can do Dynamic Energy Budgets of mammals yet.

Thank you!
Adam

Hi Adam,

Not quite but that is a priority for this year. Marko Jusup and I are refining exactly how to compute heat production from the DEB model and will then finalise a whole-life-cycle bird model. For mammals we also need to integrate a variant of the standard DEB model that includes lactation, which was largely worked out in collaboration with Bas Kooijman during Jess Roberts' PhD work. Also the software note for the endoR model is still in review but that will hopefully appear by the middle of the year.

All the best,
Mike

Hey Mike! Did endoR ever get linked to the DEB model in the same way as the ectotherm model as you described in this thread? I've been asked to work on some thermal/mechanistic distribution models for a bird that happens to have parameters in the Add My Pet database, so having access to the full bird model DEB linked with microclimate responses would be awesome. But the endoR in the NicheMapR version I just re-downloaded still doesn't seem to have that option. Figured I'd ask on this thread, since a lot of time has passed since I asked the original question!

Best

Hi Adam,
No sorry not yet - I got about 80% there but have paused further development while we convert the package and the DEB Matlab routines into Julia, which has been a big job but will make it easier to develop these sort of integrations. Hopefully by mid next year ...
All the best and happy new year everyone,
Mike

Gotcha! Thanks for the update. Luckily my project isn't really going to be getting going until mid spring, which might sync up with that possible mid year timetable. I might check in periodically for more updates if that's okay and won't annoy you too much.
