why does Nice Player ignore JPGs?

First: What a great piece of software! Some day students will study it
in their UI classes.

Second, a confusing problem:

QuickTime opens JPG images fine.
Nice Player uses QuickTime.
Why are JPG images greyed out?

although jpgs technically would display, not in any useful form,
niceplayers UI is for movies only. However you can get any individual
file, no matter what the type, to load ignoring the file extension
checks using drag and drop of the individual files, either on to the
NicePlayer dock icon or into the playlist
