Hi Glowers!

Happy to say that we're almost done with the PCPP application!  YAY!  In order to keep the Camp under a $5000 budget, we decided to cut the camp down to 3 days, and invite 50 participants.  We will also be asking each participant to fund-raise their own transportation to Camp (with the help of volunteers).  We will be hosting the camp at Vida Joven in Jinotega, which is a great spot (and our cheapest option).  I talked to Greg about the application and he recommended nailing down our itinerary and our sessions before we submit it.  This way we can think together and make sure that EVERYTHING we are going to need will be included in our budget.  Having a better idea of the sessions will also help us tidy up some of the questions brought up on the application.

So....I would like to propose a Camp GLOW meeting for Saturday, 4 August in Matagalpa at 10:00 am.  In this meeting we will develop committees and split up responsibilities, decide on session titles and brainstorm presenters, go over transportation costs and other aspects of the budget, and review the PCPP application.  Unfortunately, WE DO NOT HAVE FUNDS TO PAY FOR TRANSPORTATION TO THIS MEETING!  I would love to see as many of you there as possible but I realize that on our very limited budgets it might be hard for some of yall who live further away.  Robyn and I had discussed that those of us closer to Mata can pitch in to help get other GLOWer's to the meeting.  Maybe we could also have some of you tune in via Skype?  Robyn also graciously offered her house for for those of you that might have a hard time making it back to site in one day.

Dates for the meeting are flexible but Id like to have it in early August so that we can turn in the application by September 15th.  That will give us 4 months to fundraise for the camp, which Greg thinks will be more then enough.  Please EMAIL ME BACK letting me know if you can make it to the meeting or not.  Let me know too if youd rather meet on a different date.

You all are so wonderful!  Hope to hear from you all soon.

Thanks,

Alison

Hi Alison,

I could make it to the meeting. Is there a spot open for me on Robyn's floor?

Hey All!
I hope you all are having a great weekend. I think a meeting is a great idea. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to make it because the trip is about 9 hours from my site and it gets pretty expensive. I would love to be part of the skype call if that happens. Let me know!

Best,
Liz

Ok, so the fecha for the meeting is coming up.  We should clear some stuff up so that the meeting is as productive as possible, since it's a pain in the ass for us all to meet up.

1.) Where are we going to meet?
We could meet in my house, but it'd be a little cramped and all but two of us would have to sit on the ground.  I could also ask the NGO that I work with to prestar us some space.  I'll check into that.  Another option would be a cafe or restaurant, but those situations are challenging as there's always a lot of people and noise.  Any other ideas?

2.) What do we want to accomplish during this meeting?
Alison wrote:  In this meeting we will develop committees and split up responsibilities, decide on session titles and brainstorm presenters, go over transportation costs and other aspects of the budget, and review the PCPP application.   Could we maybe come up with a tentative horario for the meeting so as to make sure that we get all of that done?

Those are my two thoughts for the moment.  Anyone else have any ideas or questions that they think need to be addressed before going into this meeting?

Alright, just so you all know, I talked to Grupo Venancia and they can prestar us space for the 10th.  Where would you all like to meet?

Yo!  I totally second Robyns call for an organized meeting.  Attached is an agenda of things that I would like to go over. Id love to hear what everyone else wants to talk about too!

Thats great that Grupo Venancia can prestar us some space.  I say we meet there or at Barista.  Their location near the cathedral has a big upstairs space good for meetings.  Cast your votes!

So we’ll stay in touch about meeting space but plan on seeing all of you next Saturday at 10:00 am in Matagalpa.

Thanks so much!

Alison

Hey Guys,

Next Saturday at 10am works! I don´t know what/where Grupo Venancia but will find it.

Alison, the agenda looks good. If there´s time, we can always break into small groups and start planning the days one-by- one (i.e. what activities we are going to do). And we can use the general outline that we started the day we wrote the grant proposal.

My number is 8336 8610. See you all then!

Hey Guys I was wondering if either for this meeting, or at a later date we could invite someone from 58 to help out, so that they can continue working next year on the camp.

Ok, so here's the synopsis: I vote Venancia because I have a hard time concentrating in loud places, which I think Barista will be on a Saturday morning.  Just talked to Alison and she said that Venancia was a good idea, so I'm saying we just do it here.  The office is called Centro Cultural Guanuca, the directions are: de la Iglesia Guadalupe, 1 1/2 cuadras al sur, barrio guanuca.  From Seleccion Nicaraguense it's about 5 or 6 cuadras al este, and then maybe 1 or 2 al norte, just to orient you all a little.  Basically it's northeast of Parque Morazan, I'm pretty sure any taxi driver would know where it is and probably people in the street could help you.

I was going to try to put a timeline on the agenda that Alison sent out, but I actually have no idea how long things will take.  If we don't stay focused, this meeting could probably take all day, which sounds exhausting.  Let's try to at least get up to "Leadership within Planning Committee" before lunch.  It would be wonderful if everyone could be at Grupo Venancia by 9:45 so that we can begin by 10.  Are people going to be able to get there by this time, or is it too early?  For those of you for whom it's too early, you can stay at my house the night before if you need to.

This is the count I have for people crashing at my place: Angie, Hannah, Kate.  Any I forgetting anyone?  For those of you who have RSVP'd, I have my bed and a colchon that my San Rafael del Norte host family lent me.  I think it can fit two people, but if someone has another one they could bring, you'd probably be more comfortable.  I think I have enough blankets, but again if someone had a nice portable one they could bring you'd be more comfortable.  And bring pillows - I have only 3.

Alright, I think that's it for me.  Please answer back to this email, at the very least to show that you have read it and are engaged in the conversation, and I'll see you all Saturday.

Robyn,

I think we could get to Leadership within Planning Committee by lunch as well. I am going to get on the 6:45 bus leaving Ocotal, so I will probably arrive around 10, maybe a few minutes after.

Hi All,
A while back I mentioned I was interested in joining the conversation through skype. Unfortunately, one of my English festivals got pushed back to this Saturday so I definitely won't be available. Sorry! Please let me know if I can support the effort in any other way.

Good luck!

Best,
Liz

Hey all,

I´ll be getting to San Benito around 7:15am, so if all goes well, I´ll get to Matagalpa a little before 10am.

Robyn, if the invite is still happen, I might crash at your house as well. (Depends if we finish in time for the last bus.) I can sleep on the floor, not a problem - will bring a pillow.

Also, Alison and I were both planning to bring our computers if case we want to break into groups to divide and conquer.

Hey Team!

I think it's a great idea to get 58 involved, and probably 57, too. It would;ve been nice to have a retreat before Alison and I COs, but that probably won't happen. See you all on Saturday!

Ps. Does anyone want to meet at Selecion Nicaraguense, grab coffee at 9:00am and walk over together?

Take care,
Julie
