Founded by a Scottish marine engineer in (you guessed it) Vauxhall, London in 1857, the company has been under the umbrella of American giant General Motors since 1925. Notable former Vauxhall cars include classics such as the Victor, Chevette, and Cavalier, while the current car range includes city cars like the Adam and Viva, extended range electric cars like the Ampera, the Astra, and the Zafira Tourer, a large MPV. Vauxhall also sells high-performance versions of a smattering of its offerings under the sub-brand VXR.

Whatever the issue - such as rough running, heavy fuel consumption or lacking power, our network of 18,216, rated reviewed specialists nationwide are ready to help. We also work with Mobile Mechanics who will come to you if your Vauxhall won't start.

A diagnostic test is a service performed by a mechanic to discover problems in a car. There are a diverse range of issues which can be discovered during a diagnostic and it is a vital aspect of car repair.

As a service, a diagnostic is vital for finding faults quickly. It is a service you will have to pay for as it takes time and skill to carry out, however, it is significantly quicker than manually checking every single part of a car which is how they used to be carried out.

A diagnostic test will be able to find problems which may be totally undetectable to a mechanic, furthermore, a diagnostic could tell a mechanic that a problem is developing before it turns into a serious issue.

The cost of a diagnostic is required as it takes time and mechanics charge for labour. The cost will depend on a number of factors including the type of car and garage. Dealership garages may carry a higher charge than an independent garage, however, the only way to find out how much a diagnostic will cost for you, is by using FixMyCar!

The story is that the van has been sat on a driveway unused for four years with the owner working abroad. It's a 2008 model with only 80,000 miles on the clock. The battery was absolute toast (unsurprisingly), so the first thing I did was to fit a healthy battery and see what happened. To my surprise, after three or four seconds on cranking, the engine sprang into life and ran for a couple of seconds before dying. For the couple of seconds that it did run, it sounded absolutely fine. After cranking it again it fired up once more for a couple of seconds then died, and now won't restart. I plugged a diagnostic machine in to it and was getting a lot of error codes relating to low voltage etc. which I assume to be stored codes as the old battery slowly died due to lack of use. There was also a P0100 MAF circuit malfunction code. Having cleared the codes the one which came back straight away was the P0100 code so a replacement MAF was fitted (decent branded one, not an eBay Chinese cheapy) and now the code does not come back, so I'm pretty sure the old MAF was faulty and the new one has fixed the problem, however the van will still not start. Having looked at the diagnostic, there seem to be many strange values in the list, e.g. System Voltage 214.7V, Intake Air Temperature 6202.23 degC to name just two (full list below). If I look at live data, pressing the pedals has not effect on accelerator position, brake switch, clutch switch. I wonder if I'm looking at a toasted ECU, but then the van did run twice (albeit briefly). Anyone have any bright ideas as to where to test next??

The 2.0 is airflow sensitive. Disconnect a pipe WITH MAF connected and it wont run. Disconnect MAF, introduce a DTC, and try starting. HTH.
