This was a pain to find, but if you left-click the system icon, then choose "keyboard settings" and then "Layouts", there is an "Options..." button. Click that, then a popup will show where you can scroll down to set the shortcut to just about anything:

Mint Keyboard is a simple yet complete keyboard tool with hundreds of emojis, themes and different fonts. This app certainly offers great possibilities to maximize all its functions and make your conversations with friends and family even more fun and graphical.
The only essential requirement to use Mint Keyboard will be to accept the permissions indicated at the beginning to replace it with the built-in default keyboard. This way, you will be able to make it your main keyboard, which will appear every time you need to write any message, either in apps or documents.
But there are other advantages to Mint Keyboard, such as the guaranteed typing fluidity thanks to the size in which each and every one of the keys is displayed; the possibility of opting for slide typing; or the word predictor that will show very accurate results according to the sound you are dictating at the same time. And if you want to go further, you can also customize the keyboard with your own photos or favorite colors.
So, my question is basically, how do I add a custom keyboard layout in Linux Mint?To clear things up: I want to add/install a NEW custom keyboard layout, not add/select one from the already installed ones.

I have had both an original and a replacement for this keyboard and both have had problems. The first just quit, the second had some kind of short. Not worth it.
In my video you see I try to push the caps lock, change the background, change the connection. Nothing works. Randomly shuts itself off
And note: you may even have the same keyboard layout, associated with different input languages, configured in system. Then, you may switch the input languages using the system keyboard shortcut, and have the same layout - thus, not have to change your typing procedure, but have 100% reliable way to set the text language on the systems that support this.
@mikekaganski Nice, I had forgotten the multi-script context where layout switch makes full sense (Japan, Korea, of course Cyril. I was prisoner of my single-script (or single-alphabet) routine where the layout switch brings more confusion than help.
Is your keyboard damaged ? I seem to read the same Cyrillic character on G and K (as Cyrillic P). Where is Cyrillic L? Is it an artefact of low resolution image?
All settings within onboard and the system properties are activated that relate to the login/lock screens. But for none of them, an on screen keyboard is displayed automatically. While I can call it in the login screen, there is no such option in the lock screen.
Is the on screen keyboard in the login screen powered by onboard as well? Cause it looks different.
Are there other on screen keyboards that are better? I will try them sooner or later, but if s. o. has an experience here, this would be greatly appreciated.
Finally: how can I enable an on screen keyboard in the lock screen?
Buyers should just expect typical laptop-style chiclet keyboard feel, with the keys springing back thanks to a scissor switch mechanism. The product page mentions that the keyboard is low noise and soft-touch. Samsung highlights the durability of the ice cream flavor finish, saying that there is a wear resistant coating over the character and chocolate chip printing.
