Psychometric Characteristics of ERP Indices of Performance Monitoring
The present study will assess the relationship between brainwave measures of errors and emotional and personality functioning. Each participant will complete one laboratory session of up to 90 minutes during which their brain responses will be measured using electroencephalogram (EEG) while they complete three separate speeded tasks. The questionnaires include information about your demographics, mood, and personality.
If you are enrolled in a class that is accepting extra credit, click on the New User link on the experiment management system home page. Complete the account request form, making sure to select all courses you are enrolled in that are accepting extra credit. If you do not see your courses listed, please contact so...@vt.edu before creating your account. Once submitted, your request will be processed and you will receive an email confirmation within two business days that your account has been activated.
In order to recruit participants using the experiment management system, you must first obtain approval from the Intro Psyc Coordinator. Submit a copy of your IRB approval packet to the Intro Psyc Coordinator (electronic or paper), including the IRB proposal and the approval memo from the university IRB. Please be sure your proposal clearly states the number of participants that your study will require. Electronic submissions may be to sent to so...@vt.edu.

Membership in SPSP is open to students as well as professionals; anyone interested in personality and social psychology is welcome to join. The benefits of SPSP membership include publications, annual conference events, public interest activities, and support for student education and research.
I am also Director of the Voice Analytics and Neuropsychology Lab (VAN Lab). My research is one of the few that examines the link between the behavioral and neurological aspects (EEG, fMRI) of voice and prosody for the development of neuropsychological measures to predict speaker states (emotion, health, etc.). I am particularly interested in measures that describe and differentiate neurological diseases (such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's related dementia) and impairments. We are currently using an integrated approach of voice analysis and electroencephalography (EEG) or functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data to identify differences in timing and the interactions between the various brain regions involved in these processes. Other projects ongoing in the lab include modeling of speaker characteristics, such as the speaker's physical and personality traits (e.g., voice attractiveness) and psychological states and intentions (e.g., vocal stress and disagreement in social interactions), from his/her tone-of-voice or prosody, and relatedly, investigations of the neural representation of emotional expressions through prosody using fMRI in healthy adults and adults with Parkinson's disease.
SONA software will be used for scheduling, signup and assignment of credits. As a student in PSH 110, you will receive in your Brockport email account an email containing your password. The email will be sent from the Human Subject Pool System [brockpo...@sona-systems.net]. You may use this initial password to login, at which point you may change your password if you wish. From this website, you will be able to access the available studies, sign up for them, cancel if necessary, and keep track of your completed and required credits. If you have not received an email with your login information, please contact the SONA administrator, James Witnauer, at jwit...@brockport.edu. If you do not receive an account and you fail to contact Dr. Witnauer by February 3, you will need to complete the alternative written research assignment (see guidelines below). Before contacting Dr. Witnauer, please be sure to search your Brockport email inbox for the SONA login information. The email with your login information will be sent from brockpo...@sona-systems.net.
Before a study can be placed on the Sona System, the researcher will need to email a copy of the IRM approval letter to cehs...@okstate.edu. Only faculty, staff and students in the College of Education and Human Sciences will be allowed to place their study on the system.
Researchers who participate in Sona must include the approved procedures for the Sona subject pool in their IRB application (verbiage of a sample statement is included in Appendix B of the Researchers Policy attachment) and must have IRB approval prior to participating in the recruitment pool. Upon obtaining provisional approval from the IRB, researchers must contact the Sona administrator at cehs...@okstate.edu to register their research project and gain access to the Sona System. Once researchers are registered, the Sona administrator will notify the IRB so that full approval for the project may be granted. Researchers are obligated to accurately record which students participate and enter this information into the Sona System so that instructors may assign the appropriate credit to participating students.
Students in a course utilizing the Sona System should refer to their class syllabus for information on the number of credits that are required or offered as extra credit for the course. To access your account and current studies, students should go click here and use the login information emailed from the Sona System. Login information will be sent during the second week of classes. It is also important to note that the College of Education and Human Sciences Sona System and the Department of Psychology Sona System are not related, so students must complete studies from the College of Education and Human Sciences Sona website to receive credit for their course. If you have questions contact the Sona administrator at cehs...@okstate.edu.
SONA is open for all faculty, staff, and student researchers in our college. If you are preparing to conduct a research project, reach out to SONA administrators (psfa...@sdsu.edu) during project planning to learn how SONA can help you recruit from our diverse pool of participants.
