A couple quick notes about Severe Weather Operations.
Now that we are getting into the “Rainy Season”, rapidly developing (and often string to severe) storms will likely occur DAILY until November. We operate SKYWARN WX-Alert Nets to help keep you and your neighbors safe.
These Weather Nets are most likely to occur after 2:00 PM and can continue into the Evening hours. However, as we get into July and August, Southwesterly flow off the Gulf can also foster strong to severe storms over Coastal counties beginning early in the morning and then push inland. It is always a good idea to monitor the frequency for a moment or two before starting a QSO.
Beginning June 3rd, we will begin simulcasting the weekly SKYWARN WX-Alert Information Net each Tuesday evening beginning at 7:30 PM. The Net is conducted to provide ALL Hams and particularly those who are Trained SKYWARN severe weather spotters with a heads up on severe weather potential for the following seven days. If there is a threat from Tropical Weather systems, these Nets can help you prepare for their impact. Each Net will feature a Check-in Segment. This is a great opportunity to TEST your radio to make sure it is in good working order.
