Greetings to all,

I've been reading the previous posts about the different NXDN radios, especially those from Evans and Paul.

However no one radio or brand seems to stand out. Does anyone have a preference for either brand or a certain model?

Dan....

NXDN is a lot like the rest of Amateur Radio when it comes to radiio preference.  It you are a Kenwood afecionado, you will lean toward Kenwood.  If ICOM is your cup of tea, then ICOM is likely the way you will go.  You go with what you are most comfortable with.

In conventional, digital mode, ICOM and Kenwood are compatible, well almost.  We have found with this endeavor there are a couple over-the-air features that work a little differently and one, Over-The-Air-Aliasing (Kenwood) that causes the ICOM radios some distress.  But other than that, the two brands work together.

Recently, Kenwood and ICOM announced an agreement to begin selling each other's version of trunking, a mode that is not currently used in Amateur Radio.  I suspect both companies are working on a radio model that will do both on demand.

Dan, being the “Kenwood guy of the bunch…”

I have to second Paul’s comments. It’s what you feel best that works.

I have played with them all, programming wise (dstar’s fault) I am not

a “all bunnies and pudding” person with Icom CPS. Kenwood for a Icom

person is not all a joy either… but like anything close to that Mototrbo CPS…

Icom and Kenwood software is a shoe-in….

catch me or Paul or some of the other Kenwood and Icom people using

the radio’s and take a look at it.. only way for you to know.

Cheers!
