Hi All,
I'm a new NXDN user for a couple of weeks. It took attendance at Paul's talks at 3 years of  techcon's for me to finally buy an NXDN capable radio. But, now I've got an Anytone D890 firmware updated to v1.05 working pretty well on NXDN.
Is there an operational NXDN repeater in Levy County? I live near Chiefland/Trenton when I get back to Florida later this year.
Meanwhile, there are 2 NXDN repeaters in Central Connecticut available to me here in Massachusetts near Springfield and the CT line. So if any Florida visitors are up here near Hartford, CT, try KB1AEV442.550 or K1IFF449.975, both RAN1.  It's a learning curve with DMR and NXDN, but so far, I can recommend the D890. It appears to be a quality radio

At one time, Levy Co. Emergency Management programmed a VHF repeater located at Gulf Hammock to be dual mode:  Analog and NXDN.  The repeater is an ICOM FR5000.  There was some talk about possibly putting a UHF NXDN repeater for Ham use on the same tower but I don’t think it ever materialized.

Unfortunately, the closest NI4CE NXDN repeater is in Sumter County at Sumterville.  While it has a great footprint, it does not get into Levy Co.

I will get with Clayton and see if this can still happen.

I do know the VHF one is up.

Welcome to nxdn!

Unfortunately, I can't give advice on the availability of an nxdn repeater in levy county,  but I can comment on the anytime 890..

This radio has become my every day carry, replacing much more expensive icom and yeast handhelds, and another DMR radio.

In fact, I like it enough that when they release a 50w mobile version, I think it'll replace the id5100a in my truck!

Hello Paul and All,

Thanks for the info. The Gulf Hammock repeater is currently listed on Repeaterbook.com at 147.330 as FM+NXDN, K4NCA.  It is a very good coverage (in FM) repeater and hears well and comes in well at our EL89np home in Southern Gilchrist County, about 11 miles north of Chiefland. As of April, when I left Florida, it was being regularly used for some local nets. So, I'm hoping the NXDN side works.
We get a lot of coastal (Gulf side) tropo enhancement at our place, so I may be able to get into the Pasco and/or Sumter NXDN once in a while.

I have a question: On the NXDN repeaters up here in CT, when the CW ID comes on every 10 minutes, it overtakes (blanks out) any NXDN transmission ongoing. But the NXDN parties do not hear anything. I see various ways that have been used to deal with that issue. Does NI4CE have that issue and/or what was the preferred solution? I don't think that the issue has been solved up here.
Thank-You

Hi Mark,
What is the repeater in CT.?
I know K1IFF, Cliff has a nxdn repeater up there that is a Kenwood repeater but not connected to the CORE
At this time, being a Kenwood. (we are working to get cross-platform connections built)

Sounds like what you are talking about is a MMDVM Node attached to a repeater that has an external
Controller in my thoughts.

Respectfully,

Evans Mitchell

NI4CE does not have the “unfriendly CW ID” issue because we ID using a Text Message every ten minutes.  We have turned off the CW ID mechanism built into the repeaters.  FCC rules state it is legal to ID in the mode you are operating in.  As NXDN supports text-based data transmissions, we chose to go that route.  It is faster, does not interrupt QSOs and also does not throw the repeater out of NXDN mode.  The CWIDs are actually analog transmissions.

That sounds like a great solution to me. I sent your answer to Cliff
and Dana , who operate the 2 NXDN repeaters in Connecticut.
Does the Repeater ID packet show up at your radio if you are operating
at the time...on the screen... or as a sms...or as a notification?
Thank-You

It will show up on the radio as a message but only if your radio is programmed with the Talkgroup it uses .  It is in ICOM's Short Digital Mrssaging protocol which differs from Kenwood's messaging format.
