to NI4CE NXDN Users
Greetings, I have registered and received my NXDN id (10149). I also bought an OpenSpot 4 to use with an Icom d-star handheld (ID-52Plus).

Tried to create a signal path to get into the weekly net last week but was unsuccessful. Also saw that the net might not allow connects beyond the repeater network.

So, probably better to get a IDAS radio anyway for full capability. Looking at the Icom ID F62 mainly because I have their marine version so I can share batteries…

Is there a recommended distributer to get the radio and programming software?

Excited to get set up on the system.  I live on Clearwater Beach and look forward to being able to leverage the NI4CE system beyond analog.

Thanks,
Bob Smith, N3FTU.

Bob….

Unfortunately, your investment in the Hotspot will not get you onto the NI4CE NXDN system.  It is a NXDN “radio only” accessible system.

Tom Chance-K9XV operates T-Comm Systems, a factory-authorized ICOM NXDN radio dealer.  You can email Tom at tom.c...@t-commsystems.com.  He can get you whatever you need including accessories.  Tom is also the author of FlxNET, the Radio Over IP software that connects the entire NI4CE system together.

For more information about the Repeater Sites and the Talkgroups used on the NI4CE system, go to NXDN Digital Communications | West Central Florida Group, Inc.

We look forward to hearing you on the system.

Dave....

I beg to differ with your comment.  It's ALL about RADIO!  That's what sets every Amateur Radio license holder apart from the rest of the folks.  Anyone can fire up an app on a computer and chat VOIP with anyone else.  But only licensed Hams can communicate RADIO over IP using the precious bandwidth your license allows us to use.  And because it is all wireless on RF, we can communicate from almost anywhere.  We are not constrained by the length of cable that connects your VOIP computer to the Internet.

Of course, a repeater system isn't FREE.  Like everything, is costs $$$$   But so, too, do cell phones, SAT phones and the Internet.  But only radios can be operated on Ham Radio spectrum .  And that's what NI4CE NXDN is all about....Ham Radio!

Paul, I want to apologize to this group for not being more respectful of the way I say things . The points you made were very well taken. I have looked into getting a NXDN radio and they on the surface appear be to be expensive. But maybe I am not seeing all the advantages that NXDN  brings to the table.   Thank you for responding back to me . I really appreciate your comment and you sharing your thoughts with me. Again  I would like to let everyone know that I am very sorry for responding to this was very unprofessional with my actions I hope everyone has a wonderful evening.  Dave W4MYK

I own several types of radios, including NXDN, D-STAR, HF, UHF, and others. I was an early adopter of D-STAR and invested in the technology when it first became available. However, it's worth noting that D-STAR repeaters are significantly more expensive than NXDN repeaters. Additionally, the sale of NXDN radios does not contribute financially to WCFG.

Furthermore, it's important to recognize that AllStarLink is also accessible exclusively via RF.

Would those interested in NXDN please not reply all as there are plenty of us on this feed who have no interest in NXDN at all, thank you.
