I wanted to share an experience that I had.   I sometimes monitor 1200 on my hotspot and I heard a local ham, Port Richey talk about the NI4CE NXDN system.  I reached out to him and explained that it is a stand-alone system that covers the entire West Central Florida area.  I offered to loan him my HT (ICOM F4161DT) and he took me up on it.  I programmed it for him including his NXDN number and dropped it off.  Last night he emailed me asking me to come pick it up after about a week.  He went on to explain that he heard very little activity and when he called out no one would respond to him even after he had just finished listening to a conversation. When I first dropped off the HT I did talk to him on the Pasco repeater and he was clear with no packet loss so I know getting into the repeater was not an issue.

The people who maintain the NI4CE system both analog and digital do a great job maintaining it and expanding it.  When I talk to people on other repeaters or Talk groups if they are within the range of the system I always tell them what a great system it is.  I personally would like to hear more activity on it so when things like this happen it does disappoint.

Kevin….

Thanks for your note.

There are some Hams who think unless a repeater is constantly busy, it’s  not worth their time or effort.  That is unfortunate.  There will be more activity as more Hams discover NXDN and the sound and quality benefits of digital two-way radio.  In the meantime, those of us who have discovered it and use the NI4CE system daily can reap the rewards now.
