Does NXCore support this style of data transfer ? I hopefully will be testing by next week.

Right now, the state is, there is none.

Yes it can work over the Icom, but it does not populate over the network unless

The repeater is directly connected to the other repeaters ( max is 16 total ip sites )

You have to build a whole new program to strip the data, and then push it to the aprsd network.

Thanks Evan's yes that was my question really, and I should have been clear, "Does NXCore traffic carry this data " ?

It appears not, which is a shame. However I am confident it can be supported in the mmdvm code once tests are done.

It may be possible to add NXDN G4KLX software connect to those 16 repeater hubs to extract the data for aprs.fi etc.

Icom is easier to pull GPS from than the kenwood. We at one point had that 6 years ago.

GPS data is sent by ICOM radios as a Text Message.  It uses the same format as the Short Digital Message (SDM).  Instead of the SDM string using "MSG" as one of the fields in the message structure, it uses the proword "GPS" and them embeds the actual comma delimited GPS string in quotes as the message.

Porting this information to APRS, for example, should be quite easy so long as you can translate the five digital originating Station ID into a callsign and you have access to the APRS network.

I did a direct test with two IDAS repeaters connected directly via multipoint, and good audio each way. i tested transparent
data > test send via d-rats and also NXDN chat ; but no result at the other side, no text shown, using Icom 6.25 KHz 4800 bps usual channel protocol.

Then reading this ;
"The new IDAS radios can be used as a transparent data modem which transmits various data at 9600 bps over the radio channel using 12.5 kHz channel spacing.
Text messages can send up to 100 characters text data message and scrolls the received message on the display"

from the Icom brochure.

Is it the case that only 12.5KHz IDAS operation supports transparent data ? Or do I have configuration errors ?

Based on everything I have been told, Transparent Mode is a 12.5 KHz, 9600 baud emission.

100 character texting, using the SDM feature, is a 6.25 KHz NXDN feature.  I have this working in my NXDNMsg Windows app.  And for longer messages, including formatted NTS messages, the app breaks the total content into multiple 100 character messages and then puts them back together again once received.

-SDM feature ? have not heard of this. If transparent data is not what is being used on 6.25 KHz, then I would like to see the serial configuration
for the radio concerned ? Can you share more on your working setup please Paul ? The codeplug, and/or detail, and software used ?

Thankyou

Paul, I see the in-radio SDM feature, I will try that later. However have you had any luck with external program entry linke NXDN Char etc ?

SDM is short for Short Digital Message.  Your F4400D portable and all IDAS display models suuport this feature.  Look in the programming software for DIGITAL --> SDM for configuration options and the ability to store pre-canned messages in software for recall as needed.

When connecting to a computer, you need to enable the programming cable's Multi-Connector to PC CMD V2 to be able to read and write to the radio.  You will also need to set the baud rate for the serial transfer.  Write these changes to your radio and the radio now becomes an extension of your computer.  Then, using ICOM's PC COMMANDS function library of SDK, you can create custom programming to work with the radio.  One caveat:  With PC CMD V2 enabled, you will need to press and hold the P0 key on your radio when you turn the radio ON in order to RESET the radio to work with the programming cable to make programming adjustments or load firmware updates.

Radios that are equipped with a multi-pin connector will use the Serial IN and OUT pins (usually 2 and 3).

Paul, Where is the best online reference to ICOM's PC COMMANDS function library of SDK please ? We have SDM working on these radios via keypad entry thanks, just looking for the PC usage using CMD V2 ?

Not having much luck on google.

I am not failiar with any ID for the F3400D / F4400D radios.  On the other hand, ICOM NXDN radios are considered Land Mobile Radio products, not Amateur Radio products.  You will note the same with Kenwood's NXDN offerings.  I cannot speak to their respective motivations although I am sure ICOM is not enthusiastic about promoting a digital mode that would overshadow D-Star.
