A Messaging Talkgroup

Effective immediately, a new MESSAGING Talkgroup (1250) has been created specifically for NXDN Messaging and Texting.  This will allow WXMsg for NXDN operators to communicate system-wide without disturbing other operators who normally monitor on Talkgroup 1200.

To implement this, you will need to create one or more new Memory Channels in your NXDN radio that can be dedicated to TG 1250.  Here is some step-by-step guidance to accomplish this:

1.      ADD a new Talkgroup (1250) to the CALL LIST in your radio.

2.      ADD a new Digital Profile in the DIGITAL à CONVENTIONAL à PROFILES section of the ICOM programming that uses the CALL LIST entry you previously made.

3.      Go to the ZONE you wish to create the new Memory Channel in.  Enter the TX and RC frequencies.  Use RAN 1.  In the DIGITAL PROFILE, select the profile number you previously created for TG 1250.  When labeling this new memory Channel, I recommend you use the letter “D” as a prefix to the name for the channel.

4.      It is advantageous to ENABLE TG 1250 in the RX GROUP for the ZONE you have created this new Memory Channel in.  This will enable you to monitor TG 1250, 1200, 1299 (SKYWARN) for messages there.  Click on MEMORY CHANNEL à ZONE OPERATIONS and fine the RX GROUP column.  Click on the ZONE cell and edit the RX GROUP entries for that ZONE to include TG 1250.  Then click OK to save the setting.

5.      Now, write these changes to your radio.

Finally, when editing the WXMsg SETTINGS, I recommend you make the FIRST channel one that operates on TG 1250.  This will insure the app will always start-up on a TG 1250 channel and will enable a new Heartbeat feature coming soon to WXMsg to provide maximum benefits and visibility for your station.
