Hi

Extracted GP practices catchment during end of July 2016 areas from:

https://www.primarycare.nhs.uk/publicfn/catchment.aspx?oc=A81006

and

https://www.primarycare.nhs.uk/publicfn/mapping/postcodelookup.ashx?auth=D4E13042&postcode=HP224AA

The results are different, so two .CSV files (300Mb and 175Mb) with different content (.7z: 7.5Mb and 15Mb) containing mapping from Postcode to GP Practice code.

It now temporarily lives temporarily on google drive:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxQ_GTAUuHlCS1BFOUppZFE5SVk/view?usp=sharing

I have to thank Pete Shadbolt for providing inspiration and sharing the results from his previous extraction.

A few details:
The postcodes from the areas used the point in polygon technique. Where area consisted of more than one region the whole area was used (116 practices make some sort of difference between inner and outer areas; usually barring persons (they label them all 'patients') as new registrations from outer areas)
Based on areas there's more choice than based on postcode (JSON interface), which suggests that either or both are not kept up to date.

Hello,

electronic copies of GP practice catchment areas have already been made available in the public domain, and you can source the data in KML format by using this link:

https://data.england.nhs.uk/organization/primary-care-commissioning

Please quote the NHS England data catalogue as the data source. We plan to update the file on an ongoing monthly basis, practice boundaries are amended on a regular basis so any person or organisation interesting in using these data are also recommended to check for data updates.

You may wish to contact NHS Choices who also present health service data in the public domain including information on GP practices and finding GP services.

Kind Regards,

Primary Care Web Team
