This is the time of year when each adult student selects two pieces to enter in the juried show for professional artists. Even if you are not making money selling art, your work can compete with those that are.
All students 18 and younger need to select one of their best paintings to enter in the fair. We will help you select your best piece if you are not sure.
Although you may not win a ribbon, it is important to be juried in and displayed, because over 50,000 people visit the art exhibit and my students have sold work from the fair before, or secured commissions from clients at the fair. People that are interested in your work will have the fair staff place their name and number on the back of your art in a sticky note. You never know what opportunities are awaiting you with art unless you try.

SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY FORMS EARLY! ABSOLUTELY NO ENTRY FORMS WILL BE
ACCEPTED AFTER SEPTEMBER 25, 2009. Official printed forms must be used in
making applications for entry. Entry forms are located in the back of the State Fair
copies of the form may be duplicated. Be sure to fill in the entry form completely,
accurately and legibly. Social Security numbers are REQUIRED for all exhibitors in order
for premium monies to be awarded.
INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all residents of North Carolina. Original works of art in specified
media completed within the past two years and not previously exhibited at the
North Carolina State Fair. Exhibitors cannot use a published pattern. There will be
three separate categories and exhibitions for PROFESSIONAL, AMATEUR, and
STUDENT artists. There will be one category and exhibition for schools - PUBLIC AND
PRIVATE SCHOOLS. All home schooled students must enter as individual students.
SHIPPING AND DELIVERY: Exhibits can be shipped or mailed prepaid to:

Exhibits must be shipped or mailed via US Postal Service in substantial returnable
containers with return postage included (no UPS or FedEx). To have your artwork
returned to you, you must include prepaid postage. Package must be clearly labeled
with name and address of the exhibitor. Shipments must arrive at the entry
office no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2009.

ibits that will be hand delivered must be registered. Hand delivered exhibits are to
be delivered to the front entrance (south side) of the Scott Building from 9:00 a.m.-5:00
p.m. on Friday-October 9, Saturday-October 10, and Sunday-October 11.
All reasonable care will be given exhibits; however, works are entered at the artist’s
risk. The Fair and staff are not responsible for damage or loss at any time. If the
exhibitor desires insurance coverage, this coverage should be secured from a local
insurance agent prior to entry and the policy written to cover the period of exhibition
and transportation.
ARTS & PHOTOGRAPHY
Hand delivered exhibits must be tagged with official entry tags obtained from the
ENTRY DEPARTMENT CLERK at main front entrance to the Scott Building, before
exhibits will be judged.
JUDGING: Judging will be done between Monday-Wednesday, October 12-14, 2009.
Exhibits which are not selected for the exhibition may be picked up during the week of
the Fair if claim check is presented at that time. NO ENTRY SELECTED FOR THE
EXHIBIT WILL BE RELEASED FOR PICK UP UNTIL MONDAY, OCTOBER 26. All
pieces must be removed from the Scott Building between 8:00 a.m. and
7:00
p.m. on Monday, October 26. Unclaimed entries will be transported to the
Entry Department in the Administration Building at that time. (Shipped
entries will be returned by October 31.) Unclaimed art may be picked up in
the Entry Dept. 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. until November 7, then it becomes
property of NC State Fair. A storage fee will be charged each day following
October 26 for works not picked up once released.
The N.C. State Fair reserves the right to refuse to exhibit any work that may be offensive or obscene or that NC State Fair management deems inappropriate for minors to view.
No copies or prints of art can20be entered as original art.
INDIVIDUAL ARTIST CATEGORIES
1. All painting, drawing, print making, & photograph entries in these categories must be
framed and wired for hanging. "Wrapped canvas" (no staples visible, not canvas
panels) with finished sides are acceptable. Saw tooth hangers and loops will
pull out of the hooks used to hang artwork and are unacceptable.
2. No entry in any classification can exceed 40" total in any dimension and weigh no
more than 40 pounds.=2
0Maximum dimension includes frame, base, etc.
Please note that frame sizes are interior measurements. A 40" frame is actually longer than 40". Total dimension cannot exceed 40". Any entry that does not meet framing, size and weight restrictions and other criteria listed above will be disqualified and will not be exhibited.
3. No entry will be accepted that is wet, perishable or deemed unstable in any way.
4. No names (other than artist's signature), addresses, business cards, etc. can be visible on the front of the entry in the Professional and Amateur categories (this does not apply to Student and School categories). Names must be on the back of entries (address and phone number are optional). Although this is not a selling show our art show staff will do everything possible to put buyers and artists together.
5. Professional artists may submit up to 2 entries. The Professional show is a juried show and all entries may not be selected by the judges for exhibition. Amateur and Student artists may submit one entry on
ly.
6. Artists must decide which category to enter their work into. You may not enter into more than one category. Students who are entered under the schools category cannot enter in any other category.
7. Entry fees (if applicable) are non-refundable. Checks are to be made out to "North Carolina State Fair" and should be attached to the entry form.
8. Artists must decide whether their work is to be entered into professional or amateur categories (see descriptions below). Student category is for students in grades K- 12 who do not have an entry in the school classification. If a student feels their work is on a level to compete with adult amateur or professional artists, they may enter their work into that category. However, they may enter work into one category only, including the schools category.
9. If an entry is to be considered for "Best NC Scene"(write location on back of entry), "Best NC State Fair Scene" , "Best NC Agricultural Scene/Still Liife", or "Faces of Carolina" award place a green dot in the lower right hand corner of the frame. Exhibitors must also write the corresponding c
lass number on their entry form.
PROFESSIONAL: $10.00 entry fee per person for up to 2 entries. Entries will be juried by a competent out-of-state judge(s). Only the judge's choices will be hung.
AMATEUR: $5.00 entry fee per person for one entry. All amateur entries will be juried.
INDIVIDUAL STUDENT: No entry fee. One entry only. All student art works will be exhibited AS SPACE ALLOWS. This category is for students, grades K-12, in public, private and home schools who wish to enter one piece on an individual basis. This category is not judged with the school category. All entries in this classification must be framed and wired. Unframed entries will not be displayed. Entries must have name and age on the front of the piece, and address and phone number on the back. All Home School Students must enter as individual students.
