Detailed Requirements

We are looking for a Cognos 8 Administrator/Developer for our client, a prominent firm in the San Francisco.  This is a wonderful opportunity to work at a prestigious company.  If you are interested, please submit your application right away.

 

The Cognos 8 Administrator / Developer will support Cognos 8 user base of approximately 200 users globally. Responsibilities include all aspects of standard Cognos 8 administration and development, plus the ability to enhance our solution by recommending any system or process improvements while supporting.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as “front line” support for Cognos 8 environment by fielding end user support tickets
  • Triage tickets based on urgency and level of difficulty, based on guidelines provided.
  • Quickly obtain working knowledge of SDLC and change control methodology
  • Perform standard activities such as:
  • System Administration
  • Maintenance of Cognos 8 application to satisfy business requirements and service level
  • Support users in the creation of Cognos queries and reports
  • Maintain and update existing queries, reports, folder structure and portals
  • Monitor and ensure stability of all 4 environments: DEV, TEST, PROD and DR
  • Configure user profiles
  • Respond to system alerts (e.g. Cognos report failures, application server space issues, etc.).
  • Production Support
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues by engaging various infrastructure teams and application development teams (i.e.: Server, Oracle, Salesforce.com, SQL DBA, and Integration teams) when necessary
  • Respond to and resolve performance issues for users
  • Troubleshoot user security permissions or display/browser issues
  • Manage issue resolution with IBM Cognos support
  • Development
  • Translate business requirements into technical design and prototype
  • Develop and maintain Query and Report Studio objects
  • Cognos development deployments to environments per SDLC
  • Identify and deploy required Cognos Framework Manager model updates
  • Perform rigorous unit and regression testing; assist users in business testing
  • Recommend best practices and improved business processes where possible based on observations from user support needs

Minimum Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience with Cognos 8 (including administration, Framework Manager, Report Studio functions)
  • Experienced in multi-dimensional and relational data modeling methodologies.
  • Knowledge of and experience with data warehousing solutions for a high-tech/software company a plus
  • Experience with Oracle, Hyperion Planning, and Salesforce.com applications a plus
  • Ability to independently prioritize and re-prioritize work based on understanding of business need and urgency
  • Ability to drive for results and meet deadlines while following SDLC and support methodology
  • Ability to maintain great attention to detail and a high quality of work with efficiency
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to support team members, business partners, end-users, and organization with a positive and open-minded approach
  • Strong aptitude for learning and understanding business process and needs
Working business process knowledge in the context of business intelligence in the following areas: Finance, Sales, Renewals, Client Services, Professional Services, and Corporate Marketing.
