Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the world of journalism and has become an increasingly important tool in online journalism. It also has become more efficient and effective in delivering news to readers. With its ability to analyze vast amounts of data and identify patterns, AI can help journalists benefit from this technology by producing more accurate and engaging content. However, it has also raised concerns about the future of the profession. In this article, we will examine the advantages and disadvantages of using AI in online journalism, while exploring the potential consequences of its continued integration.

Automated Fact-Checking: The accuracy of news reporting is a significant issue in journalism. Fact-checking can be completed more quickly and correctly using AI. The danger of disinformation is decreased as a result of AI's ability to cross-check and validate sources from a wide range of platforms. Personalization: Reader preferences may be tracked by AI algorithms, enabling personalized news recommendations. Online news sources may use machine learning to customize content for their viewers based on their reading preferences, interests, and search patterns. Data Analysis: AI can analyze large amounts of data to identify trends and patterns, helping journalists uncover new stories. Language Translation: AI can translate articles into multiple languages, making them accessible to a global audience. Content Creation: AI can assist in generating content such as summaries or headlines. Predictive Analytics: AI can predict which stories will perform well based on past performance data. Audience Segmentation: AI can segment audiences based on interests and behaviors, allowing for targeted content delivery. Real-time Reporting: AI-powered tools allow for real-time monitoring of events and social media activity, enabling faster reporting. Increased Speed: Information can be processed by AI far more quickly than by humans. Online journalism platforms can instantly organize and classify content for their users using AI algorithms, giving them access to relevant information in real-time.

Biased Reporting: The objectivity of AI algorithms is only as good as the humans who design them. When algorithms are created without taking into account diversity, there is a chance for biased reporting. As a result, systemic racism, sexism, or other types of discrimination could continue. Lack of Creativity: AI can only operate with the data that is provided to it. This implies that news produced by AI could not have the originality and creativity that human journalists are capable of providing. Job Losses: The automation of previously performed functions by people, such as content curation, may lead to employment losses in the journalism industry. As fewer individuals are available to fact-check and report on complicated topics, this might result in a decline in the quality of journalism. Ethical Concerns: Ethics questions are raised by the use of AI in journalism, particularly when it comes to the usage of private information. There is a chance that AI algorithms will be created to influence readers and their behavior in order to make money. This can cause people to lose faith in online journalism platforms. Lack of Empathy: AI-generated content lacks empathy and understanding of human emotions which are crucial in reporting sensitive stories. Lack of accountability: the use of AI in journalism must be transparent and accountable to ensure accuracy and fairness. Without proper oversight, AI can perpetuate biases and misinformation, ultimately eroding the credibility of online journalism.

Online journalism has undergone a transformation thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), which offers both advantages and disadvantages. On one side, AI may assist journalists in quickly and accurately analyzing data, enabling them to generate more insightful and educational content. It can also help with the difficult task of spotting plagiarism and fake news in the current digital era. However, when it comes to narrative, AI cannot take the role of human intuition and imagination. Additionally, there are worries about the ethical implications of utilizing AI in journalism because it may result in journalists losing their jobs. Because of this, even while AI has its advantages, we must utilize it carefully to avoid jeopardizing journalistic integrity and human employment.

Abstract: The aim of this text is to analyze the future of immersive journalism from the perspective of experts now, in a moment when the initial experimental stage seems to have passed given the smaller number of pieces being today produced by leading media. To do this, we conducted two focus groups with 15 international leaders in the field, including both professional and academic points of view. We asked them about the main strengths, weaknesses, challenges and how to overcome them so that immersive journalism has continuity in the future. The results reveal few differences between the views of academics and practitioners, especially regarding the strengths and weaknesses of this new narrative, which is as versatile as it is complex. Most of them agree that immersive journalism is still in its experimentation stage regarding its production, although there is a positive perspective regarding the sustainability of this format in the near future. Both groups agree on the need to continue testing to understand this new narrative language and insist on the need to introduce this knowledge into journalism schools, both theoretically and practically. With the rise of social media, citizen journalism continues to soar as many people are seizing the opportunity to spread news, awareness, and other valuable information to the public. Many people think it is necessary to have citizen journalism since the credibility of the mainstream media is getting questionable. Many believe that they spread news depending on the benefit of some and is somewhat deviating from the truth.

Journalism is about providing accurate and relevant information to the people by gathering facts. However, if it no longer serves its purpose, and mainstream media nowadays seem to be a form of a mind-conditioning platform, people feel the need to get involved and opt for citizen journalism. Nonetheless, everything has advantages and disadvantages. Many people may think it is beneficial to the public, but there are also some who see it as a hindrance or a mockery of real journalism and their citizen journalism ethics.

There are occasions when stories need more details to it, and since people are more involved and concerned nowadays, they have means to confirm, correct, and add information about the news from the mainstream media as there are instances when they would only focus on one part of the story, leaving other important and relevant information.
