Yes. You simply make a second account. There is no tie to your first account from a Linden Lab point of view. They treat them as 2 separate accounts. How you use an alt account is completely up to you. Some people keep them secret so they can enjoy SL alone without being bothered by friends. Some use them openly as business partners and co-land owners.
If all you want is different appearance setups, like one look that is a 20-something girl, and another that is a quad housecat, and another that is an anthro vixen, and one more that is a burly male truck-driver type, but all can have the same name over their head, then that is just different outfits worn by one avatar. Buy new avatar sets, like a furry avatar that makes you into a vixen, and wear it. Changing your body, including gender and all other physical description factors, is as easy in SL as changing your shirt. Switch between them at will by selecting them in inventory, and wearing the new stuff to replace what you had on before. My main account has over 100 different looks like that. They would all say my name over them, but they can look 100% different.
If you want a completely different name, friends list, inventory and everything, and the ability to log on with more than one of those accounts at once, then you create a second account. This is also called "Making an alt". There is no linkage between individual accounts at all. They are unique individuals as far as the Lab is concerned, andf share nothing between them in common, even if you register them with the same real-world info and mailing address.
I think about what would help creators learn how to make more optimised stuff all the time, because I work with avatars everyday and I see what people make etc.
The thing is for a lot of people who really like making stuff in Blender, the Unity part is difficult for them and they do not want to spend much time setting up the avatar in Unity.
I do Unity commissions for private avatars and avatars for sale, so I can see what creators struggle with.
People have to use separate meshes or bone transforms to 0 to make toggles on Quest. And you cannot really always use bone transforms for this so you use separate meshes. Which increases the amount of skinned meshes, meshes and material slots.
Please do not recommend disabling Mipmaps for lowering texture memory. They exist not just for improving how your textures look when viewed from further away, but boost rendering performance by reducing memory bandwidth usage and making certain kinds of operations more efficient. You can find more information in this write-up: Optimizing Texture Memory (VRAM) & Size Poiyomi Shaders
Lowering texture resolution is the most important thing to do when optimizing for texture memory, but choosing an appropriate compression format can also help! Higher quality formats at a lower resolution may yield smaller file sizes and better visual quality than the default formats at a higher resolution!
Off the top of my head, I think the Runa uses 3 matcaps set to 256, 3 diffuse each at 1k, and a few masks all at 512. Three normal maps, all 512, used for tiling/stochastic sampling, and one overall normal map at 1k. I think my total texture usage is just over 1.5 times a 2k texture if you sum them up?
I also tried wrapping the into an which can carry the component prop, but then only the icon is clickable and not the whole avatar, which was my goal here. Wrapping the whole avatar didn't work for me.
I think one of the biggest mistakes we make as bloggers is not figuring out our target market before creating content. Using customer avatars certainly keeps you focused and on point to serving your specific audience.
Thank you for this template. It helped me on many levels. First, it confirmed that the audience I am trying to attract (the over fifty year-old woman) it totally unrepresented in the category of women. The few examples I was able to find did broaden my vision and it also was apparent that the sub-categories are almost invisible. That realization will help be formulate the messaging with my blog.
Thank for sharing Darren.
This definitely makes a conversation a lot easier. Knowing at least the personality of you reader is better than spending minutes on how your approach should be or how you would properly address them.
Cheers!
On youtube I found a guide that said that to create avatar I should go in settings and click 'CHANGE AVATAR'. Then I can design my avatar. But for me it does not work. I only receive options to take photo or select a picture.
I did my investigation and found that my issue is likely because my Android version is too old and latest supported version is of April, before avatars appeared. I was just hoping it may be possible somehow to create avatar on PC version. If not, delete this topic.
Hey guys. This thread seems to be getting a little out of hand with avatar creation. If users want to have more masculine features, there are options for masculine-style clothing, hair, and facial features that can help show your masculinity. At the end of the day, our virtual characters are a way for all sorts of people to explore their personal style and express who they are. Having the option to pick any style of clothing, regardless of gender, gives everyone the creative freedom to be who they want.
If you want to see more physical masculine options available for your avatar, I suggest posting in the Ideas Page of the forums in a respectful way. Other users and developers are able to share their suggestions with each other, and we've even seen some ideas later implemented in past updates.
Yeah I'm a white Man and they didn't have any Avatars that even resembled me a little. I didn't make a Avatar, my wife got me the Oculus Quest 2 for Christmas. I find it awesome! Love the golf game and Resident Evil is awesome.
I agree, I picked a starting avatar with facial hair. But the pose is feminine and there are no male clothing options, everything is dresses, low v shirts, skirts, and short shorts. They say it's all gender neutral which everything is except the pose and clothing. I didn't mess up and select a female at start, the avatar had a mustache and facial hair, it was male. Can anyone please help us.
Hey I am a latin american I selected Male but my avatar poses with hand on the hip which breaks my immersion as I don't identify as a affeminate perdon Can you please add the option of changing poses I would take a T pose instead of that. Also that smug smile looks too unrepresentative of my latin american culture.
I have the same issue. I currently can not use the avatar and I will definately not use them or promote them. I've tried to set mine on Whatsapp, the first one was good, I'm male with a beard. When I try to cusomtize its clothes it gives rather weired options. Dresses, tops, bikinis, etc. Not only the clothes are gender agnostic (which would be a bug on the system) but it is clearly not appropriate for large audience. See attached picture, it shows a man with a beard and women leggins and lingery! This can not be acceptable.
Hi there @KLiFF2023! We totally get how complicated setting up your avatar might be, and want to make sure you can get the full access to the available options! Currently, there is not a specific gender assigned to the avatars, as they all start as a gender neutral base avatar. From here, users like yourself can choose between different body types that appear more feminine or masculine, and there are some facial features and details that can be considered traditional gender indicators. In your screenshot showing the outfit page, you should be able to scroll down to see all of the options there. Let us know if there's anything else we can help out with!
" they all start as a gender neutral base avatar" then you "can choose between different body types that appear more feminine or masculine."
So can you label these? It is not clear to me which is which.
My coworkers make fun of me each week for having breasts, or looking weird because my eyes or cheeks or hair or skin do not match my real world appearance enough. I've come to dread going back to the avatar editor week after week to try again, because it's seems impossible to use (or purposefully broken?). It seems you've removed features from your tool to encourage bullying and embarrassment, then tell us it's enlightened and neutral so it is not your fault that I cannot represent myself.
Maybe the problem is how the choices are not clearly labeled, and there is no filtering, and it is very difficult to accurately preview anything from the flat images. (i appreciate "going to the mirror" but still find it doesn't match appearance in horizon workroom meetings).
Why can't I pick something that looks like a man, a biological man that went through puberty and became an adult. Every version of The Avatar looks like a Pat from Saturday night live. this world so crazy we can't have true binary genders. Are you going to hurt someone's feeling because you give options for male or female. This world is going insane
Having trouble with a Facebook or Instagram account? The best place to go for help with those accounts is the Facebook Help Center or the Instagram Help Center. This community can't help with those accounts.
Hi there, i was wondering if it was possible to put two models into one prefab like for example put two different avatars into one model and make it a toggle to switch between avatars on the expressions menu on vrchat, like i know it will probably be a lot of performance issues and i get that, but is it possible to switch avatars through expressions by putting the avatar with a different avatar in the same prefab. (idk if im explaining it correctly or not, im just hoping you understand what im trying to say).
Honestly, the best way you can figure some of this stuff out is to just try it! Do some tests without the big change and make note of your FPS. Then activate your test object or objects and test again. A big part of game development is finding the right compromise that gets you good performance, yes, but also allows you to actually get the work done.
