NHLI Honors Diana Derige!
The National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) is proud to honor Ms. Diana Derige as its Hermana de la Semana
representing the Executive Leadership Program (ELP) Class of 2006! Ms. Derige is a Program Officer at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. As a member of the Food, Health & Well-Being team, Diana serves as a collaborator and facilitator, responsible for cultivating opportunities for bringing about
positive change in communities, and executing programming efforts aligned with the Foundation’s mission. She focuses on funding opportunities that enable the foundation to make progress in ensuring that all children can grow and prosper by having love, good parenting, high-quality food, physical activity, interaction with nature and access to healthcare.
Prior to joining the Foundation in 2010, Ms. Derige worked for more than 10 years in public policy, advocacy and community-based philanthropy in Chicago, Illinois. She held positions as a Program Officer for The Chicago Community Trust, State Coordinator for the Ounce of Prevention Fund, Program Manager for the Illinois Public Health Institute, and Project Coordinator for the NorthEast District Health Council to name a few. Ms.
Derige has also been a fellow for the Mid-America Regional Public Health Leadership Institute and The University of Michigan’s HIV/AIDS Intervention, South Africa. She is a member of Hispanics in Philanthropy, the American Public Health Association, and Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy. Ms. Derige holds a bachelor’s degree in arts, sociology & women’s studies and a master’s in public health from the University of Michigan. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, established in 1930, supports children,
families and communities as they create conditions that propel vulnerable children to achieve success as individuals and as contributors to society. Ms. Derige’s work resonates strongly with NHLI’s mission of community activism. For this, we thank Diana Derige for all of her positive work. Congratulations Diana!

, NHLI will highlight one notable Hermana each week. Nominations will be accepted from all 25 Executive Leadership classes. Each week one woman per class will be showcased as our Hermana de la Semana. These women should be truly exemplary of the NHLI story and of our legacy as successful Latina leaders.

Congratulations to our Rising Star: Stephanie Bravo
The Rising Star is given to an exceptional Latina leader under 30
Ms. Stephanie Bravo is currently the Assistant Director of Social Media at Santa Clara University. She is also an award-winning entrepreneur having founded StudentMentor.org
, a national higher education organization helping college students find and collaborate with mentors. In December 2011, Ms. Bravo was invited to The White House to meet the President of the United States and speak with government officials about her organization's role in improving college completion and promoting a diverse 21st century workforce.
As a result,StudentMentor.org
and The White House launched a partnership in 2012 showcasing student stories to bring to light to this critical issue. Ms. Bravo was previously the Founder and President of Making a Difference for Good USA, a nonprofit that provided thousands of rural
Cambodians with clean water, medical services, and education. During her tenure as an M.D. candidate at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, Ms. Bravo was selected as a prestigious Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar and was elected as the Mentorship Program Chair of the Latino Medical Student Association. She was a first-generation college graduate earning a B.A. in Psychology with honors from San Jose State University. The National Hispana Leadership Institute holds a special place in her heart since she graduated from
the Advancing Latina Leaders In Nonprofits Program in 2012. Ms. Bravo is a staunch advocate for Latina leadership as a leader of the Latina Leadership Network and an active member of the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley. She is also a graduate of the Latino Board Leadership Academy by the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, an Advisory Board Member of Silicon Valley Latino Magazine, and an avid volunteer and speaker at many more Latino organizations throughout her community in the San Francisco Bay
Area.
