Hi all,
I just came from an intensely powerful memorial service. I want to thank the organizers of this evening; it brought me to tears, as well as stirred me to "keep my pilot light lit." I want to echo the sentiment of many of the speakers, that a service to remember the homeless people who have died in the last year is something we simply should not have to hold. Let us continue the fight toward ending homelessness.
And on that note, we have set a time for our next meeting based on the responses to the online survey. We will be meeting next on Thursday, January 3rd, at 7:00, location to be announced.
One last point: we have been receiving a lot of requests from people who likely are feeling overwhelmed by the number of emails we are sending. The logistics committee has come up with two proposals for handling this, which we can discuss further at our next meeting, but which I will lay out here as well:
-People can choose to stay in the Google group but not get any email (but still read them through
groups.google.com) OR chose to get one email digest a week with a summary of the messages from the whole week. If you wish to take either of these routes, or to be unsubscribed in full, you can email me directly at
mwsqu...@gmail.com rather than sending your request to the entire group.
-We will propose at our next meeting to start a list that is separate from the NHHAW list, preserving that list (and those contacts) for announcing events and, primarily, for next year's Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. We can notify people and encourage them to sign up for the new Housing Our Neighbors list if they wish to remain involved throughout the year.
So, mark your calendars for January 3rd, and feel free to bring a friend. Let us keep our flames burning as we march forward in our efforts. Let us bring in this new year with renewed vigor and commitment. Let us continue to fight tirelessly to end homelessness.
Sincerely,
Matt Quinlan
