Hello NHHAW members,
We are eager to send you all a flier to encourage you to attend a premier action step this Friday w/ our newly started social work action group called Housing Our Neighbors.
We will be sending the message that every homeless person is vulnerable and not one person should be ignored or left out in the cold to sleep on the street. We hope to stand together in solidarity w/ an awesome number of homeless individuals activists, service providers, agents of change and all other supporters during our attendance at the city counsel briefing on this coming Friday, Feb. 1st. The briefing is being held by city counsel officials to speak on the city's point-in-time homelessness survey count and celebrate its 75 Journeys Home campaign.
What about # 76 and # 4,088?.. While the city has promoted the campaign that rededicates housing for the 75 "most vulnerable" homeless individuals, along with its 10 year plan to end homelessness; in its 5 years, the program has provided housing for less than 200 (of roughly 30,000 total) of the vulnerable population and the target goal of 75 is less than 2% (1.83) of the 4,088 homeless persons sleeping on the streets of Baltimore on any given night-- this is not enough!
There are 17,000+ vacant properties throughout our city. As a group of students, advocates and change agents, HON is dedicated to ending homelessness in our city through civic action, advocacy, alliances and a focused incentive to bring together ALL those without homes with the large number of vacant properties without residents.
I bet that right now you're thinking, 'wow, this is a cause worthy of my support' and you're now wondering how you can help?.. So here's what, we need you and all those you know who are willing to come and stand in solidarity for about 2 hours this Friday morning AND invite people with vehicles to come meet up together in front of Health Care for the Homeless as we load cars and caravans of folks for the cause!
Also, attached is the flier to print and share. We hope to see you all there!
All for human rights, dignity and worth,
HON
