Hello NHHAW family,
I hope all are well. As many of you may know, a number of individuals who participated in the Sleep-Out last November have gone on to form a full-time advocacy group, Housing Our Neighbors. Since that time, we have explored and identified a number of discrepancies between Baltimore City's policies and its practices. We are working tirelessly to hold the city accountable for these.
I want to let you all know about our most recent struggle for justice. A number of individuals have set up an encampment along I-83 and The Fallsway, called "Camp 83." Some have been living there for a few months, some a year, and others for over four years. They are individuals, couples, veterans - they are our neighbors.
And they are facing immediate eviction.
The City plans to evict all members of the encampment this Friday, 3/8/13 at 8:00am. We, along with media, attorneys, church leaders, community members, Occupy members, friends and family, plan to be there to help move the residents into stable housing - as per the Housing First model identified in the city's 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness.
We would love to have your support; we will meet at the encampment at 6:00am Friday morning. If necessary, we will move to the lawn at City Hall to reiterate our demands that these community members be offered safety, security, and civility through housing.
Please join us. Please let our city know that we stand for justice and that we value the rights of all. Remind our city that housing is a human right.
And follow us online - check out some of the press that we have been engaging these past few weeks.
