NEW!  Animation with Blender  (3 Days)
  • These sessions will be led by an educator experienced both with using Blender, powerful free software for creating 3D CG animation, as well as with facilitating middle and high school students to produce short animated films. Participants will get hands-on training with the software, the basic principles of animation, and the use of a broad array of Creative Commons and Open Source resources. The initial learning curve for the software can be steep, but by the end of the first day, attendees should feel comfortable with the interface and the basics of how the software works. The second day will be especially intensive, as attendees begin applying principles of animation to their work. The third day is for attendees to finish a short animation of their own choosing, individually or in teams. There will be also time in the evening to gather to watch and discuss some animated films. Attendees may bring their own laptops  - Mac, Windows, or Linux - but there will be two computers in the lab allocated to each attendee. Software, a toolbox of assets, and teaching resources will be provided to all attendees.
  Innovation by Making  (2 Days)
  • These sessions will be led by educators who have experience using technology and practices from the maker movement as tools to enhance student learning.  Work directly with the trainers to gain hands on experience with technologies such as 3D printing and Raspberry Pi's.  Each attendee will take their Raspberry Pi home with them.  The first day will also include time in the evening to network and play hands on wide range of maker technologies that can be leveraged in the classroom.  All attendees will be required to bring a laptop capable of accessing the Internet.
  Google Apps for Education (GAFE):
  • These sessions will be led by certified Google Education Trainers, Google Innovators, and Google Administrators who have extensive experience using GAFE in education institutions.

    • Classroom Teachers - The Innovation (2 Days)
So you have the basic skills needed to use Google Apps for Education...now what?  How do I apply them in ways that improve my classroom and my engagement with my students?  These sessions are focused on helping teachers use GAFE as a tool to do just that...improve student engagement and learning.  On first day the trainers will utilize project based learning methods to help show the links between Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Sites, Extensions, and more.  You will also learn how to use GAFE to automate many classroom tasks.  On the second day attendees will break into learning groups based on common ideas and interests. The first day will also include time in the evening to gather together in order to hang out, network, and further discuss the possibilities when using Google Apps for Education.  All attendees will be required to bring a laptop capable of accessing the Internet.
