Natural History
Field Studies instructor Katherine Nelson will discuss "Soil in the
Ecosystem" in a Powerpoint presentation at an ANS members' meeting April 26
in Annandale, VA.
Soil is a critical component of the ecosystem,
furnishing nutrients for plants and habitat for many animals. The structure
and properties of soil determine the particular plant community that it
supports. Ms. Nelson will explain the function of soil and its role in the
biosphere.
Katherine Nelson is a Planner-Coordinator with the Montgomery
County Department of Park and Planning and a certified Arborist. She holds a
Masters in Planning from the University of Virginia and teaches "The Living
Soil" and "Land Use Principles" for ANS's Natural History Field Studies
Program at the Graduate School USA.
The meeting will be held at the
George Mason Regional Library, 7001 Little River Turnpike (Rt. 236),
Annandale, VA, easily accessible from the beltway and I-395. Doors will open
at 7 for refreshments, with the program beginning at 7:30. Use the side
door!
