Hello Field Studies Students,--Meadowside Nature Center hosts a "Nature Matters" evening lecture series, and the talk next week looks especially interesting. I have seen an art exhibit of Patterson Clark's invasive work, and it's amazing what he can do with garlic mustard!BradyWednesday, March 12
Patterson Clark: The Invasive Plant Harvest - art from alien weeds
6:45 – 8:00pm
Meadowside Nature Center
5100 Meadowside Lane
Rockville, MD 20855
Restoring native plant communities often begins with the removal of exotic invasive vegetation, which yields an abundance of material that can be processed into paper, pigments, cordage, lumber, fuel, food, chemicals and medicines. Patterson Clark, well-known for writing and illustrating the Washington Post’s natural history column Urban Jungle, describes how he taps this bounty and reassembles it into art that refers to its botanical origins.
Ages 14 and up; FREE. Check-in and refreshments are at 6:45. The lecture starts at 7:00pm. We ask that participants register at ParkPASS.org or by calling 301-258-4034.
