Hello, all,
I know everyone shows their love for our planet in their own way. If get-out-there-activism is something you'd like to do, here is an upcoming opportunity. I know they need all the support they can get to make a strong statement.
The final hearing by the State Dept. for the Tar Sands/Keystone XL pipeline is being held on October 7. The group 350.org was the lead
organization in the recent action of 2 weeks of civil disobedience at the White House that ended on Sept. 3. They are organizing a lunch time rally in front of the Reagan Building to protest the building of the pipeline. I am inserting the letter I got below. It would be great if you can come.
Thanks for reading,
Charlotte Fremaux

Dear Friends,
When Bill McKibben called me last June and said he
needed CCAN’s help recruiting 1,000 people to get peacefully arrested
at the White House, I honestly had my doubts. After all, one thousand
people is a big number even for an issue as outrageous as the proposed
Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline from Canada to Texas.
But with
your help – and the help of activists nationwide – we surpassed our
goal. Between August 20th and September 3rd, a total of 1,253 people
were arrested, creating a media buzz and a political buzz that has put
the tar sands oil issue and the climate movement back on the map.
We
have to keep the momentum going. President Obama is hearing our
message, and he knows we know he can stop this pipeline on his own,
without Congress. This is becoming THE climate test of his presidency.

Our
goal is 1,000 again. That’s how many people we want to turn out for
this final State Department hearing in downtown Washington, DC for the
Keystone XL pipeline. We’ll have music, inspiring speakers, and great
colorful banners and props. If you work downtown, bring your lunch and
bring a friend. If you live anywhere in Virginia or Maryland, carpool or
Metro in for the rally and help make history.
We'll
be gathering outside the Ronald Reagan building at the 14th Street
entrance between Pennsylvania Ave. and Constitution Ave. The closest
Metro stations are Federal Triangle and Metro Center.
The rally
on the 7th will kick off one month of escalating tar sands actions
across the country, culminating in a giant action on November 6th back
in DC where we’ll try to literally encircle the White House with
peaceful protestors. This has never been done before, and we're not sure
exactly what to expect. But we know it's the type of bold, audacious
action that just might make an impact.
But for now, please just mark October 7th on your calendar. We REALLY need your help that day.
