As a benchmark, Jane and I have now recorded about 31 species of
butterflies in NH which is a bit less than last year when we recorded
about 34 species by this date.  The month has been very wet and cool as
compared to last year.   I still wonder if a few species are behind
schedule due to the weather.  A few species of note that we had seen
last year by this date that WE HAVE NOT seen this year include
Tawny-edged, Indian, and Peck's Skippers and Silver-bordered
Fritillary.  We checked for SB Fritillary at our "go to" spot in Rye on
Saturday and had none.  Last year we had our first on May 23rd!

A few comments on select species.  Sorry for the haphazard order of the
list!

2025 to date
---------------------
Juvenal's Duskywing
Holarctic Azures
American Lady - No where near as many as last year!
SLEEPY DUSKYWING - Nice to find a new location in Ossippee (close to the
others).  No doubt locally common in the Pine Barrens.
FROSTED ELFIN - Karner Blue Easement only as expected.
Eastern Pine Elfin
Dreamy Duskywing
Dusted Skipper - JUST CAME OUT over the last 2 days of the month in
numbers at a couple of spots.
Crescents
Wild Indigo Duskywing
Brown Elfin
Green Comma - Up north.
Eastern Tailed-Blue
Gray Hairstreak
Eastern Comma
Mourning Cloak
Zabulon Skipper - Now expected in May.  We've had a few now in the last
4 days of the month.
American Copper
COMMON BUCKEYE - Extremely early spring sighting on May 8.
HORACE'S DUSKYWING  - It appears we have confirmed a SPRING BROOD of
Horace's Duskywing in southern NH.
Cabbage White
Canadian Tiger Swallowtail
Long Dash - Got our first of the year yesterday with a few in Newton, NH.
Black Swallowtail
Clouded Sulphur
Common Ringlet
Henry's Elfin - Deer Hill WMA
Karner Blue

Seen, but no photos:

Monarch - Early sighting in Exeter on 5/26
Red Admiral - No where near as many as last year.
Harvester - One in Newmarket on 5/26

How about Silvery Blue?   I haven't seen one yet this year and expected to by last week...usually out pretty early here.  iNat only has a handful of records by this time - in past two years there were around 30 records by this time.

We haven't seen Silvery Blue yet, but we typically don't see many down
in this part of the State.  We've had them at a spot in Lee, but none in
coastal Rockingham County.
