As a benchmark, Jane and I have now recorded about 31 species of
butterflies in NH which is a bit less than last year when we recorded
about 34 species by this date. The month has been very wet and cool as
compared to last year. I still wonder if a few species are behind
schedule due to the weather. A few species of note that we had seen
last year by this date that WE HAVE NOT seen this year include
Tawny-edged, Indian, and Peck's Skippers and Silver-bordered
Fritillary. We checked for SB Fritillary at our "go to" spot in Rye on
Saturday and had none. Last year we had our first on May 23rd!
A few comments on select species. Sorry for the haphazard order of the
list!
