Jane and I covered the NH Coast today looking for birds and
butterflies. The clearing and light westerly winds brought some
southbound Monarchs, and Goss Farm had more surprises today!
Monarch - 103. Mix of migrating individuals, many moving south right
along Rt. 1A, others nectaring at Ragged Neck or at Goss Farm.
Mourning Cloak - 3 at Odiorne
Clouded/Orange/Cabbage Whites - present
American Lady - 4 from random spots
Crescent - 1 in Portsmouth
Zabulon Skipper - 3 including 1 from Goss Farm and 2 chasing each other
at Odiorne. New record late date. The one at Goss was really fresh
looking and there was still plenty of nectar! Can it make it into October?

FIERY SKIPPER - 1 female at Goss Farm. This was a real unexpected
find. Normally this wouldn't be that surprising, but this year they
have been absent. In fact, this appears to be the FIRST RECORD NORTH OF
CONNECTICUT in iNaturalist this year! Bizarre!
