Who said the insects were done?  The temps soared into the low 60's
today with lots of sun on the coast.  Without any prolonged cold this
fall, there are still a few nectar flowers and still some insects!  I
ended the day with 6 species of butterflies and 11 species of Flower
Flies.  I visited Odiorne Point State Park where the primary nectar was
wild radish and a small number of dandelions.  Then I visited the Tony
Rahn park at Pease in Portsmouth where there is primarily dandelion as
the late goldenrods and asters are about done.  Then I finished in
Hampton where I've been following a nice aster bush which is STILL
managing to produce some nectar and attracting lots of bugs.

Orange Sulphur - At least 8 for the day.  Scattered locations.  Most of
them at Tony Rahn park.

Clouded Sulphur - At least 1 for the day at Hampton.

White morph (alba form) sulphurs - At least 3 for the day.

Cabbage White - 2 at Odiorne

is 12/2/90 (MA Audubon web page) and the latest record for Maine is
10/28 (deMaynadier et al)

AMERICAN COPPER - 1 still nectaring at asters in Hampton.  The latest
record for Massachusetts is 11/20 (Stichter web page), and the latest
record for Maine is 11/9 (deMaynadier et al)!

Butterfly sp. - Didn't land for confident ID or photo, but I'm pretty
sure it was a Lady, likely an American Lady!!

And for Flower Flies:

Transverse-banded Flower Fly
Narrow-headed Marsh Fly
Common Lagoon Fly
Black-shouldered Drone Fly
Common Drone Fly
Eastern Calligrapher
Margined Calligrapher
Wavy Mucksucker
Long-tailed Aphideater

Hi Steve and fellow Butterfly enthusiasts!
I saw three Red Admirals today on Plum Island in MASS, wishing it was NH! So, they may be continuing in a neighborhood near you!
Best,
