Jane and I traveled north yesterday.....in another failed attempt to
find Early Hairstreak!  :-(

Excellent weather for a change.  We first hit The Basin trail in
Franconia Notch in late morning.  This is a wonderful old Beech Forest
in the Notch.  We had zero butterflies in among the beeches, but along
I93 we had several Canadian Tiger Swallowtails, a Clouded Sulphur, and a
QUESTION MARK.  Our first of the year, and a bit far north for this species:

Up at Trudeau Road and  nearby Gale River Trail road.  We had the following:

Canadian (presumed) Tiger Swallowtail - 100 rough number.  Includes a
puddle party of about 60.

Pepper-and-Salt Skipper - 5

Arctic Skipper - 3

Dreamy Duskywing - 3
Mourning Cloak - 2
Crescent - 1
Little Wood Satyr - 1
Long Dash - 1
Azure - 1

White Admiral - 0

Perhaps more interesting was the nice collection of Flower Flies
(syrphids).  We had roughly 12 species including some we don't usually see:

But no Robber Flies for us for the day.  :-(
