A whirlwind five-day trip with two groups to Errol and Pittsburg was fun and packed with wonderful people, whacky weather, and wandering birds.

Quick hits- Four Greater Yellowlegs and three Least Sandpiper at the First Connecticut Lake dam on May 14 were followed by ten White-winged Scoters on May 15, brought down by rain by the rain during the night of May 14.

One Canada Jay and a heard-only Black-backed Woodpecker for the now deeply into the breeding season (hence hard to find) boreal species.

Copulating Merlins at The Glen plus 17 species of warblers was nice. Blackpoll Warbler and a Bay-breast being pleasant surprises that far north for the dates.

A push of birds in Errol on May 17, after another onslaught of rain overnight, included Chimney Swifts and Brown Thrasher which are uncommon there.

Temperatures of almost 90 degrees were balanced a bit by slags of remaining snow and ice at Third Connecticut Lake near the Canadian border.

Add in a Moose or two with a likely Fisher, sprinkle with spectacular scenery and fascinating history, mix with an expansive bloom of early spring wildflowers. Toss lightly, and you end up with another great time in fabulous country.

Add in some fresh strawberry dressing and Voila!
A delicious mixed wildlife salad!
