Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory
Peterborough, New Hampshire, USA
Visitors:
A steady procession of visitors including a large hiking group who joined us for some nice flyovers. Total of 55.
Weather:
Better than expected. Fog cleared after half hour then partly cloudy skies throughout day. Warmed up as day went on. Winds fresh out of SW then seemed to switch more W as day progressed.
Raptor Observations:
A steady push of birds throughout the day. There was a clear shift in Turkey Vulture behavior and they were clearly headed south. Broadwings kept popping up in squadrons of 20-40, but the wind kept the kettling brief. Three Peregrines were nice highlights.
Non-raptor Observations:
Colors are starting to turn a bit. A few migrant flocks in the morning included yellow-rumps, both kinglets and red nuts. A couple White-throated Sparrows and a nice Lincoln's Sparrow joined the juncos around the platform.
Predictions:
More of the same
