Visitors:30.
Weather:Overcast, with temperatures in the thirties. Light northeast wind becoming
calm in the afternoon. Visibility all the way to a beautiful, snowy Mt.
Washington.
Raptor Observations:One sharpie in the morning was followed by a handful of red-tails and
red-shoulders. A Merlin during the 1 o'clock hour was the last migrant of
the day. The Merlin flew close to Gina, the decoy owl, and later perched on
the spruces out in front of the hawkwatch.
Non-raptor Observations:A dozen juncos (including one with a couple of white spots on the back of
its head) and three cottontails foraged for food on the ground. Ravens
played with mountain ash berries in the sky above. A small flock of
White-winged Crossbills, a bigger flock of Purple Finches, and a single
Snow Bunting were also seen flying overhead.
American Crows: 10/166
Predictions:Tomorrow doesn't look the best for migration with a chance of showers and
wind from the east.
