Hi, everyone.
I realize this might be kind of a silly question. I've been searching around for information, but haven't really turned up a good answer.

I know that folks have seen Razorbills along the coast, at Odiorne or Hampton. How close to the coastline do they actually come? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out if I should lug my (admittedly pretty lousy) scope along, or if my binoculars would suffice?

I am assuming the scope would be preferred, but I'm more asking if it's necessary or not.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Someone pretty new at this stuff

Not a silly question at all!

Honestly the distance from shore can depend on the day, some days they are quite far out and some days they are close to shore, sometimes even in the harbor.

Honestly both little harbor and hampton harbor are decent places to check for close-in razorbills:

You can also check the river by Fort Constitution: https://ebird.org/checklist/S124829099

Oftentimes from Odiorne I'm most likely to see them as flybys, but have had them just offshore as well: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/614074940

None of these birds I listed required a scope (I usually dont bring one), but having one with you certainly wouldnt hurt your chances!

Thank you! This is one of the best responses I could have hoped for. I really appreciate the examples and locations!
