A group of 28 birders enjoyed a fine day of birding at the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson and Whitefield. The weather was cool and the rain held off until the end of the day. Strong and gusty winds hindered observations but we still ended up with a respectable 82 total species for the day. The results will be posted later on eBird.

The highlights were great views of a Mourning Warbler along the rail trail to Cherry Pond; a Cape May Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, and Olive-sided Flycatcher at Waumbek Junction; and Bobolinks at Airport Marsh. Several participants were treated to the sight of a drumming Ruffed Grouse on a log. A total of 18 warbler species were noted. Special thanks to Ken Klapper and Matt Tarr for assisting on our birding day.

On Thursday 19 May 2022, we will have another migratory bird day hike and this one will be at Weeks State Park in Lancaster. The walk starts at 0700 at the start of the auto road to the summit. Free Migratory Bird Day posters including the 2022 edition on Dark Skies and Birds will be available. The walk will end at noon. Contact me off line if you have any questions.
