Here is a list of some things to consider when posting to NHBirds.
Please read.
* Our list has now grown to over 1,300 members! Congratulations. I
hope people find some benefit to this list in enhancing their knowledge
and appreciation of birds in New Hampshire. Just so you know, new
members need to be "accepted" by me before they become part of the
list. I do this in order to possibly filter out corrupt emailers that
might inflict SPAM on the list. We've had some minor problems with this
in the past.
* This email list was started in 1999 and is dedicated to exchanging
information about birds and birding in New Hampshire ONLY. There are
regional email lists similar to this for all the New England states.
Bird sightings, programs, field trips, and events in New Hampshire are
good topics for posting. In general, I do not like back and forth
discussions. With over 1,000 subscribers this can get out of hand.
* Politics, for the most part, are not part of this list. However,
local and state legislation can be an important part of the birding
community and if there are new or proposed laws that might impact birds
in NH, then disseminating information regarding issues can be an
important part of the list.
* DO NOT ATTACH PHOTOS OF ANY KIND!!! Please try to use a photo sharing
web site in order to share photos ore share links to eBird photos from
checklists. There is a NH Birdwatcher's Facebook site that caters more
to photographs.
* Always try to make your post meaningful. Read it once or twice
before sending it.
* Try to be informative in the subject line. Include species name(s)
and location if it makes sense, especially if there is a rarity. Don't
leave the subject line blank. Many people don't have that much time to
read all the e-mails, but may filter them by reading through subject lines.
* Always try to include a location when posting about birds. At least
to a town level. If the location is on private property, please
indicate this in the post. Please include specific locations for
unusual bird sightings if possible. As a reference for birders, Ken
Ostermiller's web site is a valuable resource:
https://birdinghotspots.org/region/US-NH
* Please sign each post with your name and home town. This helps us to
learn more about birders in our community.....even if we don't know what
we look like!
*If you need to change your account settings or delete your account,
then directions are included at the bottom of every email you receive
from the list.
*If you are unhappy about a post, please let me know. Don't reply to
the list. I'm trying to do my best as the moderator, but generally, I
am taking more of a hands-free approach. Remember, its easier to hit
the delete key then get angry about a post.
As always, contact me if you have any questions.
