The tail feather pattern in photo 3 indicates Red-Shouldered Hawk to me, but I'm far from being a pro at identifying hawks.  Photographed at considerable distance from the observation decks along the canal in Mine Falls Park 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Also encountered a Peregrine Falcon for the second evening in a row perched at the top of the 900 AM/99.1 FM WGHM antenna overlooking the Oxbow Cove in Mine Falls Park.

I've been going out there in the early evening hoping to encounter Nighthawks, but nothing observed so far.

Thank you to Aiden Moser and Iain Macleod (and others who may have replied later) for the Merlin identification.  A first for me.

The bird in the three photos is a Merlin.
