A developer wants to build a business park in Raymond NH, in a wetlands
area with roosting owls. The Raymond residents want to stop it. Does anyone
have any advice or contact info we can use to try and stop this?

Thanks

start with the planning board. in order to build, a developer
needs planning board permission. if there are wetlands
involved, they need permission from the state EPA. you can
contact Fish & Game to find out if the owls are protected
(they may be, as there has been a massive die-off of owls this
past winter).
you can petition the planning board & selectmen to put the
development on a town referendum, requiring voter approval (if
the land is already zoned commercial this may be difficult).
if you are an abutter to the property you will receive
notification of when any meetings are being held regarding the
property. attend them! if you are not an abutter you can go to
town hall & check the agendas for the planning board meetings
to see when this is coming up. non-abutters tend not to have a
chance to speak out at these meetings though, unless you can
convince a sizable number of people to attend each & every
meeting.
you can contact local newspapers & ask for submission
guidelines for a story about your group trying to save the
wetlands. if you're convincing enough they may send out a
reporter.

Thank you. I believe the area is considered "conservation" for one more
year--what that means I don't know. A town meeting has taken place and
people have spoken out, but people who do NOT abut the area or live anywhere
near it, think its "ok" to build. I say no. The road this industrial park
would be on is already congested and its only a 2 lane rd. But I will
contact Fish & Game. If they cannot help maybe they can point me in right
direction.

Thanks---wish us luck we will need a LOT of it

It seems to me based on memory that all owls are a protected species in New
Hampshire.
Wetlands are also protected under the epa whether it be state or federal.
Both would be areas to investigate.
