Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

OKay, so I had the same problems. I let my phone go all the way to 0%. Boom, its dead and i assume that i could just charge it like any other time. My phone's LED light blinks red for 1 second when i put the charger into the port. I look at the screen and the phone is not charging. I tried using the USB cable for my cheap smartphone and it charges that phone very slowly. I also tried rebooting my phone with the power button and volume bottom, but it just literally uses up the rest of the battery. So i decided to buy a new and cheap USB cable from Amazon and yo, it literally revived my phone. It went from 1% to 11%. Hopefully it works for you.

Batteries used in mobile phones are dangerous if not treated well, they can burst into flames. The electronics in the phone which deals with charging is programmed with the capacity of the battery and all is well ensuring no overcharge. Over a period of time the capacity will reduce and the situation of an apparently charged battery suddenly causing the phone to switch off can occur. This is less likely to be a problem if the battery is regularly run down before charging, when any reduction in capacity is adjusted for in the charging circuit, although occasional boosts of a partly charged battery is ok. Very occasionally a battery losing it's charge can appear to the charging control circuit to be faulty and this gives the flashing of the red light as the battery is given very low pulses of charge which over several hours can restore enough charge without any danger of the battery catching fire. The phone can then be switched on to full charging operation by holding the red switch button next to the SIM card with the end of a ball-point pen for ten seconds and then allowing the charge to complete showing the battery symbol before switching on the phone for use.

I hope this helps, I have had years of experience with laptops which use the same battery technology. To recap, full charging cycles are best, occasional boosts are ok, if red charging light flashes wait several hours and press red button for 10 seconds and allow to charge.

we all here complaining and giving tips when surely sony should be replacing these units. clearly the issues relate to poor manufacturing. if your not rich and rely on your phone you wont want to send it off for two plus weeks for them to quote you repair costs. and plenty 3rd party places will fix in shorter time for cheap (which voids warrenty). Sony need to step up, admit the fault and rectify the situation rather than us consumers messing around with volume up buttons etc to get a bit of life out of faulty manufacturing !

i got the same problem, the phone shut down by itself after i make a call. and i tried everything that is possible to boot up the phone but no luck, even xperia companion cannot recognize the phone. tried everything that was suggested here but no luck.

I had the same problem with my Xperia Z (yesterday!) - used phone until battery exhausted (I was using Google directions, fortunately I found where I needed to go, and part way home before the battery gave up).

When I plugged in the charger, nothing. Left it on all night, nothing. When I pressed various buttons, I got the 3 red flashes, but essentially nothing. Plugged it into the PC, and ADB and it gave no devices connected.

I had to replace the screen a while ago, so the back of mine is glued on with cheap glue I got from eBay. This glue is not a patch on the glue that Sony originally use, so I could get the back off quite easily.

I disconnected the battery, not for long, probably only about 30 seconds max. Connected the battery, plugged the charger in and the red charging light came on. I left it a while until the white charging light came on, then started the phone with no problems at all.

If it is something as simple as unplugging the battery and connecting it back up again, it does explain why it is such a quick Sony Centre repair!. A word of warning, if you've never had the back of your phone off, it will void any warrenty, it is a **bleep** of a job getting the back off, Sony glue is really strong, the glue will need replacing and it probably won't be waterproof afterwards.

So i got the new xperia 5 IV, and was wondering why i was not getting 5G, when clears the phone supports it and the bands are compatible as well. Changed the SIM through a rogers store, and nothing. I am guessing this is because the IMEI is not actiated from rogers, it is insane to me that they will not do this because "its not a supported rogers device" . . This is a network enablement, and the risk is on my side because if 5G is not working properly i can force the phone to use 4G instead.

I cant understand for the life of me why rogers will not do this for me, and i have already informed that i will be reluctantly switching carriers if they don't do this, I have been with rogers for a decade now.

Thank you for posting about your situation to the Rogers Community! We're sorry to hear you're thinking of switching service provider because of the problems you're experiencing with the third-party device you purchased.

Access to 5G may not work because it may not be turned on within your device for our network compatibility, which would explain why you can't connect. Did you reach out to Sony directly for assistance with your phone?

Tks for getting back, yes i have already spoken to one of your customer care agents, and opened a ticket as well, i was a former telecom employee. so i did do all the steps you have mentioned, including changing the SIM as well through rogers. Sony has no issue here, since the 5G bands of the phone support the bands rogers has :). this is a matter of binding the IMIE which again is a bit ludacris to me since network is not a really a SIM enabled feature like voicemail or SIM push messages. C184320417 is the ticket #

Its insane to me that a paying customer who is also a loyal customer to rogers can't get 5G enabled on their phone just coz its not in the rogers catalog, there are millions of phones that are not in the rogers catalog with the 5G capability, 5G is not a rogers technology, its a network protocol, if the phone supports it and if it's in a 5G covered area it should automatically connect to it, unless you have this IMEI binding . .

I'd also like to direct your attention to a helpful document found here. It provides some tips to help get your third party device up and running on the Rogers network as well as a list of the 5G frequencies that we support.

Thanks for the replay, but i was told by a customer service agent, that my ticket was closed, without even sending me an explanation of why ! i am getting conflicting information on this forum and on a customer support chat. the customer support person is saying that 5G should just naturally work on any device that supports it. and here i get information that the IMEI has to be activated by rogers? so what is the correct information, i have all the chat transcripts saved as well if you need them.

and ur customer service agent on my last chat said that is not the case, but there is a nuance here of "certified to use". that's the catch here, there are millions of 5G compatible phones with all the bands, that rogers cant possibly certify. this means they have to do it individually when customers ask, and that is what i am asking. AS a customer i will take the risk if 5G becomes unstable on my phone, as i can change it back to use only 4G.

I realize a ticket was already submitted but I did not realize that it had already been closed with no resolution. Would you be so kind as to send us a PM when you are available so we can check a few things on your account? I want to be sure nothing important was missed.

not yet, but i don't get many calls these days :), it's all text and data. also make sure the 4g option is set. "4G Calling" if u are experiencing poor quality of calls using 5G. and i think this issue is across all the phones that have dual sim capability, the DSDS dual sim dual standby feature is somehow interfering with 5G access.

if u r getting no bars for 5G try forcing it to 4G prefered and see if u get bars, if u do, then its a coverage issue with rogers. because being close to a tower or downtown doesn't automatically mean u get full bars unfortunately.

I recently got a sony xperia z tabled and would like to deploy/debug my xamarin.droid projects on it.What I did:* connected tablet to my dev machine* Enabled the developer options in the devices settings* also enabled usb debugging* then the tablet itself installed drivers on my dev machine and is now recognized by windows explorer and the device manager as "portable device - sony xperia"

Acually I was too f** stupid to install the usb drivers. When enabling usb debugging on the xperia z device, it asks whether it should install the "pc companion software". I thought klicking "ok" would be sufficient to perform the installation. However, this only mounts the installation software on the pc. So you have to actually manually install that stuff. I am just too stupid. Sry. :)
