Hey all,
I would like to enlist your help in making NGWA’s Wellowner.org a better resource for the owners of domestic wells. Wellowner.org (www.wellowner.org) is a great resource, highly used and ranked on all the major Web search engines. It has proven itself over the years.
That said, there is room for improvement.
First, I would welcome your help in identifying information gaps—areas or subjects important to the private well owner that are not addressed or not adequately addressed.
Second, I also would welcome your review of existing content to make sure it’s accurate and up to date.
If you have any feedback for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Regards,

Cliff,
As suggested in the “Unrelenting turbidity following hydrofracturing” thread, future discussions should start with a basic list of information that would serve to center the discussion. This would include the unanswered questions laid out in many of the responses to that thread. The basics of location, a scanned well log (driller’s log), approximate elevation, well construction details, initial flow rate, a description of the problem and the remedial efforts to date, etc. would give everyone a head start to solving the actual problem. The discussions then help us all learn what to do in the specific case being presented.
Also, in reviewing the website, it wasn’t readily apparent to me where the well owner is to click to submit such a question…is it by clicking on the ‘Webmaster’ link and sending in an email response?
The discussion in the turbidity thread was great for me…I hope other readers enjoyed it also.
Best Regards,

Greg,
Great question about where for well owners to click. At one time, well owners could submit questions via email. However, that had to be discontinued because we did not have the capacity to answer all the questions. Even then, the best we could do was point them to content on Wellowner.org or refer them to professionals. The turbidity thread is a great example. This is just one well owner question, yet look at how much time and people it has taken. Moreover, I think there is a risk at trying to render specific opinions on a well problem based on information we’re getting second hand from a well owner.
In short, we do not attempt to provide customized answers to well-specific questions. In lieu of that, Wellowner.org is a repository of information on well construction, well maintenance, water quality, and more. My hope is that I can make Wellowner.org the best that it can be in order to help the greatest number of well owners.
Regards,
Cliff
