Greetings colleagues.
I am forwarding an early-release copy of a recent paper from the Trawling Best Practices Committee. It is the product of Phase 5: " Choosing best practices for managing impacts of trawl fishing on seabed habitats and biota". The information you shared at our workshops was very helpful. I have also attached an open-access link to the paper so that you can get a copy after it is assigned to an issue of Fish and Fisheries.
Here is our new web site that is currently being updated: https://sites.uw.edu/trawlingbp/
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with us. Please contact me if there is something I can do for you. I hope to see you again soon.
Bob
Greetings!
You may recall the meetings where our study group met with you and your colleagues to better understand the characteristics of your nation's trawl fisheries and trawl-fishery management.
I am writing to ask for your help with a presentation at the ICES Annual Science Conference in September. The group will be presenting a series of papers on the 5 phases of our Trawling Best Practices project, and we are also updating the project web site to provide ready access to research products and data.
If it is not too much trouble, would you kindly send a few digital photographs of typical artisanal and larger trawlers operating in your area? If would also be helpful if you sent some photos representing the size-range of fish markets/ports. I believe any discussion of best practices for managing impacts on the benthos requires perspective on the different scales of operation, and photos are an excellent way to convey that idea to others rather quickly.
I imagine you are very busy with your own work, so I greatly appreciate whatever time and effort you can spare for this request.
Please let me know if you would like copies of the publications from the project thus far, and I will gladly assemble the pdf documents and send them to you.
I hope you are well, and that we meet again soon...Bob
