Don't take my words for it. If you know anybody who has spent sometimes (even a week and spoken to permanent resident) in Aba since the last ONE year or maybe you know some people living in Aba since some months now, do take some minutes out, call them and ask them these all too important questions.
What's today the security situation in the hitherto much criticized Aba city ?
Is Aba possibly today the safest city in Nigeria or among the top safest city in Nigeria ?
You'd be stunned by the answer. Aba today and since about a year is now is the safest city around its size in Nigeria today.
Pick up the phone and do yourself your check.

NB: Nightlife does exist in Aba even if not as pronounced as in highflying Owerri nearby. This has been so since 1970 from what I learned. Why is it so ? 'cos Aba is a manufacturing and trading city. At the end of the day, MOST citizens are too worn out to go gallivanting around. What's more, they have to be up at 4 or 5 the next morning already. Consequently, nightlife merchants and investors are also fewer. On the hand, Owerri is the opposite of Aba. The city several times officially declared the cleanest city in Nigeria, Owerri is an administrative, civil and education oriented city. Nightlife here is not just a weekend thing, it's an everyday thing starting as earlier as 7 PM and cruising on till 7 AM the next day.
