They come to Lago and this is what they do. Is it because they can't find work, are they too desperate to make money or is it just laziness that pushes them to do this? What is your take?...>please use the Quick Reply button for all replies: [Quick Reply]

Note: I am unable to read the story. When I clicked the site carrying the story, there is an error message stating that the story/site has been blocked. But I have been able to read the story in VANGUARD Newspaper on line.

Listen Kola, I am against your first line that starts "They come to Lagos and this is what they do". Quite frankly, I read this rubbish more from South Western Nigeriansba (Yorubas) more than any other people. Yorubas think Lagos is their exclusive property. South Western Nigerians (Yorubas) think they own Lagos even when if we are to conduct a study today, you'll find that other Nigerians, especially Igbos have contributed more to build Lagos. What am saying is Lagos belonged to all Nigerians especially as it is our former National capital and Yorubas need to get off this horse of making Lagos their exclusive property

Kola, you wouldn't have made this statement if the story had not stated that these criminals came from the East. We need to watch our xenophobic utterances and my advice to you is watch your xenophobic utterance. It is so easy to be prejudice and bias without even realizing it.

Check this out. What this criminals are doing is not new. All they've done is to try new tactics to steal. I say this because am a Lagosian. I was born and raised in Lagos so I know a little thing about the city. In the earlier 80s I was working at a prominent hotel in Lagos. This hotel is not far from Broad street. Then I was living at Shomolu or Somolu (which ever way you want to spell it). One Friday, I just got paid and was happy and was heading back home after close of work. I was a Idumota Bus stop waiting for a bus/molue going to Shomolu. Then the practice is because of the crowd waiting for transportation, when the bus/molue come, everyone (commuters/passengers) run/rush towards the bus to get into the bus. At this particular day, as I said, I have just been paid and I have my pay money (still in the envelope) in my back pocket and rushed to get into the bus going to Shomolu. Unbeknownst to me, I didn't know that I was also rushing with pick-pockets and they pick-pocketed my money from my back pocket and I was rendered pennyless/koboless. I couldn't even pay my bus fare and one good samaritan came to my rescue to pay my bus fare. Later, I thought to myself, could this good samaritan be the same person that stole my money.

Kola, you see, I am not angry that a Yoruba person pick-pocketed me and stole my money because quite frankly, I don't know who did it and really where he or she comes from doesn't matter. What mattered is that a thief stole my money. And that is how you should look at it. These guys are criminals and your slant that they come to Lagos and do this is utter rubbish.

I support Vin Otuonye.
Xenophobic views are commonplace in Nigeria.
It shows that despite our learning and sophistication, we still wallow in ethnic and/or religious myopia.
The same xenophobic tendency was expressed by Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola some months ago when he said those who can't stay in Lagos should go to their villages.
I was quite outraged that a man of Fashola's status could make such an unlearned comment.
Lagos is regarded as a mega city because of its huge population - of different ethnic and racial nationalities.
We all pay our taxes and levies. So, nobody should think Lagos or any part of Nigeria is an exclusive ethnic or religious property.

These guys come to Lagos as angelic choir boys from all over the country. And with all the evangelists in the Southwest, these arriving angels are converted to criminals by Lagos. And Kola fails to acknowledge the very bad influence that Lagos has on people.
