कल शाम को शेगांव से वापस आ गए. सैकड़ों लोगों के दर्द निवारण का अवसर मिला; देश के विभिन्न भागों से आये हुए लोगों से मुलाकात हुई; कईयों ने सीखा और आगे बढ़ाने का आश्वासन भी दिया. कुछेक ने तो अपने शहर/ ग्राम में आने का निमंत्रण भी दिया है. आप मैं से कई लोगों ने मेल पर तो कईयों ने फ़ोन द्वारा शुभकामनायें भी दी है. उन सब को हमारा हृदयपूर्वक धन्यवाद्.
इस मेल में बहुत सी बढ़िया चीजें है जिनसे हमें बहुत कुच्छ सीखना है. यह जीवन एक पाठशाला है और हम बार बार जन्म लेते हैं और कुछ ना कुछ सीखकर आगे बढ़ते जाते हैं.
अपने अंतिम भाषण में Randy अध्यात्म या धर्म कि बात नहीं करते हैं बल्कि एक साधारण इन्सान की तरह बात करते हैं जो की मृत्यु को अति निकट से देख रहा है और यह विसचन कर रहा है की जीवन में महत्वपूर्ण क्या है. वह कहते हैं "Never lose the childlike wonder," he advises. "Show gratitude... Don't complain; just work harder... Never give up." दुसरे का बोला हुवा हमको सहन नहीं होता है लेकिन हम सबसे अपनी बात मनवाते रहते हैं या नईं मानने पर खिन्न हो जाते हैं. इस मेल में Key to Happiness में उसी पर बहुत सुन्दर चर्चा और विभिन्न दृष्टान्त हैं.
आज हम विभिन्न बीमारियों से ग्रस्त हैं. विभिन्न बीमारियों के बारे मैं जानकारी वाली एक वेबसाइट का उल्लेख भी इस मेल में है. मैंने अपने अनुभव से पाया है की अधिकतर बीमारियों का कारण तनाव है. मैं यह इसलिए कह सकता हूँ की मुझे आज से बीस वर्ष पहले सन १९९१ में BP याने hypertension हो गया था. मुझे उसे नियंत्रित करने के लिए दो महीने तक गोली लेनी पड़ी थी. मैंने उन दो महीनों में अपने आपका अध्ययन किया और पाया की मैं जो कुछ कर रहा था उसका नियंत्रण दूसरों के हाथ में था. गोस्वामी तुलसीदासजी ने कहा है "पराधीन सपनेहूँ सुख नाहीं". मैंने अपनी दिनचर्या, खान पान, काम का समय ठीक किया और सुबह शाम घूमना शुरू किया. दो महीनों में मैंने अपना वजन भी व्यवस्थित किया और उन दो महीनों के बाद मुझे कभी BP की गोली लेने की ज़रुरत नाहीं पड़ी. यह बात और है की जिनके यहाँ १२ वर्ष से काम कर रहा था उन्होंने मुझे सेवामुक्त कर दिया. यह मेरे लिए वरदान साबित हुवा और तबसे मैंने आज तक किसी की नौकरी नहीँ की है. CS की practice में भी यदि मुझे client या उनका काम करने का तरीका पसंद ना हो तो मैं काम लेता ही नहीँ हूँ. और यदि कोई बाद में दबाव की नीति अपनाये तो हम उनसे अलविदा करने में जरा भी देर नहीँ करते हैं. इसके लिए हो सकता है हमारी आलोचना भी होती है. लेकिन जिस चीज से हमें बीमारी होती है और कोई कहे की आप सहिष्णु नहीँ हो तो भई हम असहिष्णु ही ठीक हैं. हमें सहिष्णुता का पदक नहीँ लेना है. वह जिसे चाहिए वह ले. दूसरी बात यह भी है की हमको हमारे पैर और चादर की लम्बाई का ज्ञान है. पैसा तो जीवन में कितना भी हो कम ही पड़ता है; पर कम से कम गुजरे लायक जरूर होना चाहिए. कबीर दास जी ने सच कहा है "पूत सपूत तो क्यों धन संचय; पूत कपूत तो क्यों धन संचय."
आजकल भ्रष्टाचार पर आन्दोलन हो रहे हैं और इस मुद्ददे पर सारा देश एकजुट हो गया है और जगह जगह चर्चाएँ हो रही है. हमें भी भ्रष्टाचार पर बहुत मेल मिलती है और उनमें से हमने भी कई मेल भेजी है. जिस भ्रष्टाचार की बात हो रही है वह सरकारी महकमों के भ्रष्टाचार की बात हो रही है. CS पास होने से पहले ही हमारा ROC दफ्तर के भ्रष्टाचार से दो दो हाथ हो चुका था. तभी हमने निर्णय लिया की हम कभी भी उस दफ्तर में नहीँ जायेंगे. और आज तक नहीँ गए है. वहां तो सीधे काम करवाने के ही पैसे लगते हैं. कभी काम रुकता है तो मुंबई वाले मित्रों से पता करवा लेते हैं की क्या अड़चन है. वह बता देते हैं की भेंट चढ़ावा करना पड़ेगा. हम यह बात आगे भुगता देते हैं की भई काम करवाना हो तो अंटी ढीली करो या इंतजार करो. काम सही है तो उन्हें करना तो पड़ेगा. यदि आपको जल्दी है तो उसकी कीमत तो चुकानी पड़ेगी. बात यह है की हम ना चाहकर भी उस system का एक अंग हैं. एक बार लेन देन शुरू हो जाय और हमें भी उसमें से कुछ मिलने लगे तो वह हमें बुरा नहीँ लगेगा. बच्चे ने जब पेंसिल चुराई तब माँ ने उसे डांट दिया होता हो वह चोरी और डकैती नहीँ करना सीखता. सभी को अपने किये का फल किसी ना किसी रूप में मिलता है. बकरे की मां आखिर कब तक खैर मनाएगी. इस अंक में DMK और ADMK के चुनावी वादे कि मेल है. मुझे नहीँ पता वह कितनी सच या झूट है. लेकिन राजनीती में सब जायज़ और संभव है. मुफ्त का अनाज बाँट कर अकर्मण्य बना दो यह भी तो एक बड़ी रिश्वत है. मंदिर में जाकर भगवान से मन्नत मांगो और मन्नत पूरी हो जाय तो भगवान को रिश्वत दो. जब रिश्वतखोरी हमारे खून में ही मिली हो तो हमें इसको दूर करने कि कोशिश करना अँधेरे को लाठियों से भगाने कि कोशिश करने के समान है. अब सिर्फ यह होना चाहिए कि रिश्वत किस काम के लिए कितनी ली जाय उसका formula बना देना चाहिए. ताकि उस पर सरकार को कर मिल सके. और रिश्वत लेकर काम ना करने वालों पर कानूनी कार्यवाही कि जा सके. These days, most people imagine that when they succumb to the inevitable and utter what must be their "last words", they will have time for little more than a brief, faltering sentence. If they are lucky, it will be shared with a few close family members before being swiftly consigned to the scrapheap of history.
Professor Randy Pausch is not most people, though. In September, the previously unknown computer science expert delivered a remarkable lecture to students at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Thanks to the wonders of technology, the hour-long speech did not disappear into the ether, but went on to be heard by millions. It has since changed lives, touched American politics, and is about to spawn a publishing phenomenon.
At the centre of Pausch's remarkable tale is "The Last Lecture," an old academic conceit whereby teachers are asked to imagine they're near death and must therefore sum up the entire collection of wisdom they wish to pass on to their students in a single lecture. Pausch, a 47-year-old father of three, didn't have to imagine anything when he gave his own "last lecture" on 18 September. He had just been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.
In a little over an hour, to a packed lecture-hall, Pausch delivered a deeply moving speech on the subject of "really achieving your childhood dreams." The optimistic philosophy he espoused, in a lecture punctuated by both laughter and tears, resulted in scenes resembling a real-life version of Dead Poets Society. To Americans who have recently, through the likes of Barack Obama, learnt to love public speaking, it has provided a timely reminder of how life ought to be lived.
