Sub:- “WALKATHON – 2014”

          Seeking the participation of your organization in an awareness campaign for persons      

          with special needs.

 

                                  Maithree, An Association of Parents of Exceptional Children is an institution committed to the welfare of persons with mental retardation. Maithree has been rendering its service since 1994 and right now is reaching out to over 440 such persons through 20 centres located in and around Chennai.

One of the objectives of Maithree is  “To create an awareness and acceptance both in the society and the family of  such persons  by providing necessary support”.

                           In this regard, we are planning an awareness walk on the 7^th of December 2014 (Sunday). This event is being organized  on the occasion of World Mental Retardation Day which is observed world wide on the 8^th of December every year.

“Walk with me, I shall win” - Under this banner , an army of  special children, their parents, siblings and well meaning public, will walk calling out to the society to support them and demanding that they be considered a part of them.

This event seeks to emphasize that :

·               They too have a Right To Education (RTE) ;

·               They too can work and contribute towards progress ;

·               They can and therefore should study, play, work and experience  joy;

·               The society as a whole should provide  them with opportunities ;

·               They need special support and

·               They should not be isolated from the main stream of life.

 

                 This walk would start from 16^th avenue Prabha TVS at Ashok Nagar ( nearby Kumaran Hospital )  by 8.15 a.m., go upto the Shivan Park . We would consider it a great support if some of you could join us in this awareness walk. The walk will be flagged off at 9:00 a.m and will end by 10:30 a.m.

Seeking your support and participation in this walkathon with the special kids.
