IGES is recruiting interns for FY2016. IGES internships offer an opportunity to gain work experience and to make contributions to IGES research activities. IGES internships are aimed at those who wish to play a part in interdisciplinary policy research toward sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region.

2. Requirements:
Interns must:
- Be studying for a postgraduate degree (location of graduate school does not matter), or have recently obtained a postgraduate degree or currently employed with postgraduate degree.
- Be willing to learn from the on-the-job activities at IGES (the internship is not a programme for students to write an individual thesis, but rather an opportunity to experience real strategic policy research and operational activities).
- Satisfy the individual criteria outlined in the “Internship Overview” for the research area with which you would like to spend your internship.
- The intern should be proficient enough in English for the purposes of oral communication and the preparation of written documents.

3. Content of the internship
The interns will conduct work experience and carry out activities such as collecting information for, or drafting documents related to, their Area’s research. Activities are supervised by the Area Leader, or designated internship supervisor, in the Area where the intern is placed. Those who are selected for internships will be contacted by the relevant Area Leader or supervisor to discuss and agree on the specific contents of the internship.
***Rights to all information collected by interns and all materials produced or obtained by interns as a part of the internship shall belong to IGES. -
4. Term:
In principle, the term should last a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 3 months during the period (from 9 May 2016 to 31 March 2017 (except winter vacation). The actual term should be determined after discussion between the intern and their Area.

6. Conditions:
(1) Working Hours: Five days per week in principle (9:30-18:00) (2) Holidays: Saturday, Sunday and national holidays (3) Accommodation:
IGES Hayama Headquarters
When the intern cannot commute from their current residence to the office, they will be able to use the accommodation at IGES headquarters(103KB) if there are vacant rooms (charges for telephone and bed linen change will be at the research intern's own expense).
(4) Transportation Expenses:
Travel expenses between intern’s current residence and the IGES accommodation facilities to be used during the internship period will be at intern’s own expense.

- - The accommodation can be used only by interns themselves alone.
- - Those who belong to a company, etc. while studying a masters or doctorate course are requested to submit a letter of consent issued by the company, etc. at the time of the application. Interns shall be responsible for obtaining health insurance to cover medical expenses for injury or disability that may occur during the internship period.

8. How to apply
Please submit the required documents in the above to the IGES Internship Programme Secretariat by e-mail at interns...@iges.or.jp by the due date.
9. Selection process
We will decide whether or not to accept candidates based on their applications and our e-mail communication with them. There is a limit to the number of interns who will be accepted. IGES will contact only the successful applicants once selection has been made. Please note in advance that we will not contact applicants who have not been selected for an internship.
